Name albums that are badly dated

Some of the earlier Dysrhythmia albums sound hilariously dated.
Painkiller - Buried Secrets and Guts Of A Virgin also sound really dated. Nasty grind production haha. It's cool though, I dig it.
Atheist - Piece Of Time and Elements both sound pretty dated, I really dig Piece of Time's weird, totally fucked sound though.

Also anyone hating on Reign In Blood's production needs to be shot. Dirty music, dirty album, dirty production. IT WORKS.

I never said I didn't like it or that it didn't work, I just said that when you compare it to a modern album like a Machine Head album or a Mastodon album, you notice how much better things sound nowadays. BUT I still really like that album, its one of the best thrash albums, and its one of the main albums that turned me onto metal:kickass:

Oh yeah, and nu-metal BLLLOOOWWWWSSSS

Nu-metal was/is great in my book, but everyones entitled to their own opinions.

that said, nu metal was one of the few sub genres of metal that actually had decent budgets to play with, and while some albums sounded pretty bad some sounded and still sound phenominal. Terry Date did some awesome stuff with Limp Bizkit for instance, not to mention some of the korn albums. Jay Baumgardner, GGGarth Richardson, Jay Baumgardner, Scott Humphrey, Ross Robinson etc all did awesome sounding albums for nu metal. having awesome production certainly helps my enjoyment of something - check out boiler by limp bizkit and tell me you dont enjoy that :)

Chocolate Starfish is a great sounding album. Drum sound is SICK

Also Sonny who cares if stuff sounds better or cleaner nowadays. Better isn't always better, if you get my drift?
Sure, maybe if Reign In Blood was recorded today rather than 20 odd years ago, it would sounded more hi-def and cleaner and stuff, but who's to say that's better?
Less production jobs these days, especially in metal, evoke such specific atmospheres as albums such as Reign In Blood. It's why I've been on such a tech death binge for a while, not only is the music great, but the mixes have this habit of evoking very specific, unconventional atmospheres which is something far less common these days.

there are tons of dated albums, but that's part of the experience of listening to them. they're a time capsule - the sounds were captured at a certain time, by certain people, with the help of certain engineers in a specific studio, with specific amps, etc. i don't mind listening to dated material at all. regarding testament - i love their older albums as is - it's so "raw" and it makes it heavier sounding to me (tape hiss and all ).

of course, i like shit to have the boom, but that's not always necessary to have a good experience listening to the album.

now - i won't lie - i would love to remix some of the older records, but, that's more me being nostalgic than anything else.

At the gates - Slaughter of the soul

production isn't so good by today´s standards
but it just sounds so awesome on that cd (but i wouldnt use it for other cd XD)

Cannot stand the old Metallica guitar sound at all. Jack shit mids = disgusting. I'm glad that most modern guitar tones sound nothing like that.
I'm not really a nu metal fan, but Hybrid Theory fucking owns IMHO.
The production is killer, with an amazing mix by Andy Wallace. The way the guitars and bass guitar blend together is so ridiculously amazing it's scary.
I like Deftones "Around the Fur" too.
Apart from that, all other nu metal sounds embarrassingly dated and musically was just shit too IMO
