Name albums that are badly dated

I just gotta say, best Nu-Metal sounding album IMO is Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory. BUT!!! that's just me. and I don't matter

Considering Hybrid Theory was the work of Andy Wallace.
Andy Wallace mixing an album = automatically fucking godly mix

Judas Priest - Nostradamus. I really don't know how they were able to do it. It doesn't sound dated in a cool, classic way. Just POS dated.

Yeah, they should have called it, "Judas Priest - Jump the Shark."

Priest is my favorite band, but I absolutely refuse to listen to that steaming pile of elephant dung.

The first 2 albuns of Evergrey. Shit sound but the music is awesome.
Metallica - Load&Reload --» Awesome sound. St. anger and Death Magnetic --» Worst shit ever.

Atheist - Piece Of Time and Elements both sound pretty dated, I really dig Piece of Time's weird, totally fucked sound though.

True.

Same.

Never listened to anything but the titel track and the other one they played live.

That album just doesn't exist. It's 'Cold Lake' to me.

A lot of old death metal sounds dated to me. Suffocations first few CDs are a good example. Obviously the rule either way.

Opeth - Deliverance
Nevermore - Enemies of Reality (before the remaster)

Those stand out to me. Possibly Baroness's Blue Record.

rofl effigy of the forgotten is so dirty it can't possibly sound dated because it's just SOOOO putrid sounding it transcends any datedness
(this is a good thing)

edit: also agree MASSIVELY on opeth - deliverance
that snare reverb makes me vomit in my own mouth

Are you saying you can't tell which decade it was made in? haha. Dated isn't bad. Either way, it's amazing.

I just can't stand Deliverance's Guitar Tone, a big example to me of why I don't like T75's to be honest (I'm not certain that's what was used, but man does it sound like it with that hollowness)

Nu-metal was/is great in my book, but everyones entitled to their own opinions.

that said, nu metal was one of the few sub genres of metal that actually had decent budgets to play with, and while some albums sounded pretty bad some sounded and still sound phenominal. Terry Date did some awesome stuff with Limp Bizkit for instance, not to mention some of the korn albums. Jay Baumgardner, GGGarth Richardson, Jay Baumgardner, Scott Humphrey, Ross Robinson etc all did awesome sounding albums for nu metal. having awesome production certainly helps my enjoyment of something - check out boiler by limp bizkit and tell me you dont enjoy that :)

Fair enough, the productions on some of the nu metal stuff really were pretty spectacular (especially the drums and guitars, Rectifier fury :headbang: ), and I do occasionally bust out Significant Other for a trip down memory lane - so there are exceptions (Disturbed, mainly, at least musically), but overall I stand by my statement :D

nah im saying that it sounds so fucking dirty that it doesnt MATTER what decade it was made in, because production that filthy transcends time.
im basically saying shits awesome

As much as I hate to say it because they are one of my favorite bands of all time...
Fates Warning NO EXIT.

That drum sound!

The tinny guitars drenched in 80's reverb.

The EVERTHING drenched in 80's reverb!

The Ovation acoustic guitar....drenched in 80's reverb.

I swear I must be the only person that doesn't hate the Deliverance production:lol:
Sure, it ain't no Stabbing the Drama, Brand New Eyes or even This Godless Endeavor but I hardly think it's all that bad either.
Although I do agree with Marcus, not a huge fan of the T75 tone.
I'm also one of those uncommon, weird fuckers that prefers the This Godless Endeavor guitar tone too.
I always felt the Dead Heart In a Dead World guitar tone was kinda "floating" above the mix, whereas the TGE tone actually totally fits within the mix and also sounds more aggressive to boot which to me serves the aggressive, dark aesthetic of Nevermore's music more
