Name essential thrash albums...

im sorry, but a few thrashy riffs doesnt make it thrash metal. a lot of power metal bands will have elements of thrash metal in their music (eg: blind guardian) but they are still power metal.

iced earth are power metal.

I somewhat agree with you Suicide Machine, I have long thought SOuth of Heaven as a song, was the best thrash song ever, the intro, the atmosphere, the understated aggression- perfect. However, I still prefer reign in blood and Beneath/Arise a smidgen better than the whole SOuth of Heaven album.

i cant get into the old sepultura stuff for some reason, i just find it a bit repetive, once they find a good riff they seem to stick to it and rid it of its greatness

max is one of the best vocalists that will ever grace thrash, however

reign in blood is fucking great man, i love the way it blends together seamlessly as one, but south of heaven is 10 songs that flood my synapses with the urge to kill, main, fucking destroy!!

HULK SMASH!

i dont think anyone has mentioned suicidal tendencies. so check out:
s/t
join the army
how will i laugh tomorrow when i cant even smile today
lights, camera, revolution

dont get ANY of their recent stuff, i beg of you.

Maybe some Overkill's and Kreator's work sounds like Slayer's Seasons In The Abyss. I love that Slayer album, it has more atmosphere than their earlier albums like Hell Awaits or Reign In Blood.

When it comes to Sepultura, thrashers automatically think Beneath The Remains but why not never Schizophrenia and Chaos A.D?

Some other titles I need to mention

Sabbat - Dreamweaver
Rigor Mortis - Rigor Mortis
Tankard - Zombie Attack
Necrodeath - Into The Macabre
Kreator - Terrible Certainty
Hobbs Angel of Death - Hobbs Angel of Death
Nuclear Assault - Handle With Care/Game Over
Destruction - Eternal Devastation

Hell Awaits was consistantly cool, and Reign in Blood certainly has its moments. Show No Mercy also wasn't too shabby.

Shut the fuck up! old school thrash is not your music anyways! :bah:

well nearly all the crucial albums have been named so far.

@Sorath: cool to see another one knowing Toxic Holocaust. \m/

I would like to add:
Deathrow - Raging Steel / Riders of doom / Life Beyond
Hirax - Hate, Fear and Power / Raging Violence
Darkness - death squad
Xentrix - Shattered Existence
Exumer - Possessed by fire
also Venom - Black Metal

Whiplash - Power and Pain / Ticket to Mayhem / Insult to injury
Sacrifice - Torment in fire / Forward To Termination
Tankard - Zombie Attack / Chemical Invasion

I would strongly recomment any of these but get the marked ones first... cuz the other oney appear to be a bit more raw...

Exodus - Bonded By Blood

Yeah!!! That's a great one to list. Wow, the flashbacks! "Murder in the front row, the crowd begins to BANG!!..." ...ahh the music of my youth.

I'd have to add Venom's "Black Metal" as a "must listen to" classic. The song "Buried Alive" is one of the coolest songs ever!
