Hey everyone,
I used to have a Peavey Triple XXX, which to this day is still the best damn amp I've ever owned. I sold it, like a dumb ass, when I took on my Madison endorsement. Don't get me wrong... I love my Madison's and I will continue to use them with my band. But I want a Triple XXX again. Selling that amp might have been the dumbest thing I've ever done. So, I just want to throw this out there and see if I get a bite. Thanks.

Haha! Yeah, there are a lot of bands under the Madison "umbrella" now. we actually got in on the ground floor, like 3 years ago or so.

You won't be disappointed man, I kinda miss my 5150. I will have another one some day.

Well. I love them both. I first bought a Triple XXX about 2 weeks after they were released. I hadn't even seen any ads for it yet. I just saw it in the store. Back then, I paid $850 for it, brand spanking new. Now, the damn things cost an arm and a leg. Don't get me wrong. I love the Triple XXX and I will own more than one of them again, someday. But, right now, the 6505+ is more practical for me. It has exactly what I need in an amp and NO extras. That means I'll be using every single ounce of the amp, and no cause for confusion over things I don't use, especially before the lights come up. The 6505's also have a really great feature for on stage use... When the lights are down, you can have a hell of a time double checking all the settings on your head, depending on what kind of knobs it has. The 6505's are one of the few amps with "Bird's Beak-Style" knobs. So even when you can't see good enough, you can feel your way through the settings really easily. So, even though the Triple XXX is still my favorite amp of all time... practicality demands that, for now, I buy a 6505+.

ps- I am also going back to Sheffield-loaded cabs. I've been using Celestion's for about 4 years now. I've 3 cab that are all loaded with different models of Celestion's, plus I have Madison Cabs with the Original Symphony drivers. I plugged into my old '94 Peavey, Sheffield-loaded Cab recently, and to this day, it still sounds better than all the rest. Sheffield are brighter and have WAY MORE clarity, IMO. And, since I am a firm believer that the Bassist should be the one handling the low end, I like the Sheffield's better. 6505 Cabs have them, so I guess I'll just get the cabs with the heads.:)

So, rather than assume that it's DEFINITELY the 6505 plus, that I want... I am going out this afternoon with my favorite Gibson V, to several gear shops, and will be trying just about EVERY tube amp in sight. I will post my findings. :heh:

Oooh, I dunno, that sounds like a whole lotta work - but I'm sure you'll somehow manage to find the motivation :D Have fun dude!

Really? I have heard terrible things about the Sheffields, and that those, rather than the cabs themselves, are why people don't like the matching 5150 cab.

I look forward to your findings, btw.

The sheffields are fairly decent sounding in a room, and can handle a lot of power..... I still have a cab with 2 sheffs and 2 v30's....

But god damn do they sound awful with a mic on them.

Yeah, let me clarify that. I'll be using my Sheff cabs live. I'll try them in the studio, but will most likely track with something else... Mesa Vintage 30 cab and Marshall Vintage 30 cab, usually.
