I only have a grand to spend . This will be music production computer only . I'll be using Cubase 4 ,DFHS, waves bundle etc.. What should I make sure I have on the comp. I don't know shit about building one so I'll buy already built. Thanks

Go to a local computer store and have them build it for you, you're just not getting a good enough deal with the manufacturers you'd be looking at because of the shit they bundle in. Go for a fast, dual-core processor, 2 gigs of ram, a hard drive no smaller than 100GB (200 if you want to be working on several projects), and make sure your audio interface will be covered somewhere - either have them put it in if it's a sound card or make sure you have a Firewire port if it's something external. Fuck manufacturers. They're just going to waste your money on stuff you don't want or need - I put together my own computer for $600, with more than enough stuff to record anything (hell, the thing does my physics homework faster than I can toast my breakfast bagel) and if I had taken it to a shop to assemble it for me it would have run me no more than $100.

I work at best buy, please dont hate on me... hah, weve got a couple new computers with quad core 6600's in em for right at $1000. You could always scrap vista off of them and toss xp on it but of course that would set you out some more loot. one of em (an HP) has 3 gig's of mem in it with free 2 slots to spare if you wanted to go crazy with more. To Jbrolls point however, the HP has some shit I would say is a complete and total waste but the core of the computer is pretty sexual. I've priced building a machine similar machine, eventually I decided against it because I am gonna grab a mac pro at some point in the near future. However, the one I was considering to build had the q6700 (which is the extreme edition which is just a little faster) 4 gigs of mem and two 10,000 rpm hds for around $1300. You could without a doubt scale in back a bit and still have a sick ass box to save some paper. And getting a store to build it for you won't be too bad off. It seriously takes maybe an hour to peice it together and then maybe another hour partitioning the hdd(s) and formating and installing an OS. Check out here for some parts pricing if you wanna brave the custom avenue. Depending upon how much effort you wanna expel, you def got some great options for around a thousand brother!
