I'm about to place an order for a BERGTHRON shirt with christhuntproductions.de (bergthron are very good by the way) and since shipping to switzerland costs 9€ i'd like to order some CDs with it... so, what do you think of those bands:

odal
blodulv
bilskirnir
nachtfalke
trollskogen

Yeah, I don't any of those names either! But some of my best purchases this year were completely blind, so I say go for it.

Nice CD collection by the way, but you need more Sabbath. :p

Well, "Odal" is the name of an Agalloch song and "Trollskogen" is a name of an Ulver song, so I'm assuming he did unless there are bands that don't mind totally ripping off their influences (*cough* April Ethreal *cough*).

well... as far as i know trollskogen DO exist (they're an austrian band), though you're of course right about the ulver song... quite blatant of them, but who knows, they might be good.
however, i think odal (the band) are older than the mantle-album :D

"Odal" is actually a Germanic word that exists in most/all Germanic languages including German, Swedish, Norwegian... and English. It's defined as being "Among the early and medieval Teutonic peoples, esp. Scandinavians, the heritable land held by the various odalmen constituting a family or kindred of freeborn tribesmen; also, the ownership of such land."

Odal, the band, is a fairly unremarkable but not bad raw (heathen) BM band. Like Graveland or Darkthrone. Blodulv is brutal BM, I know Lutz like them, never heard them myself. The others I've heard OF but not heard. I guess all of it is raw BM or something of the sort.

HAH! Thanks Erik, this posting proves that i didn't make any band names up :D

well, i just managed to get hold of some mp3 material by bilskirnir and odal. it seems you were right about the latter - pretty decent stuff but nothing out of the ordinary. i don't hear THAT much darkthrone, but it seems those guys are heavily influenced by the mighty bergthron. ah well, since i love that kind of heathenish metal i might give them a shot anyways.
bilskirnir on the other hand are a pleasant surprise, the song i've just listened to (for victory we ride) is quite excellent. primitive and raw BM, maybe also not too unique but very well done IMO.
i'll try to get some blodulv samples...

Bilskirnir is great heathen Black Metal, check out the song, For Victory We Ride. Very melodic.

EDIT: Oh i see you did get the song, my bad :p

Yes, it is -- that'd be in the (24 character) futhark though. The word futharc generally refers to the (32-36 character) set of Anglosaxon/Frisian runes. If you run a proper browser on a proper operating system or have a rune font installed with a non-proper OS, here it is in Unicode form: ᛟ
