Hmm. Kyuss is actually my least favorite of all the stoner bands. Stoner metal is just not my cup of tea, I guess. Some of it even sounds like a hybrid of Black Sabbath and acid rock.

Though old Kyuss is not their best, it is still very metal influenced. You can hear metallica, slayer influences. You can't discredit a bands influences because they progressed.

well, even if all you hate my music, i still need recommendations for it. use the bands i listed first off as reference. i've been into metal for about three years, by the way.

Thats because they RIPPED OFF EXHORDER! They didnt steal the Kiss, Sabbath, Or Slayer sound... they stole Exhorders. I am sure thats not something they wanted people to know about so they didnt mention the band anywhere... ever.

Before Exhorder recorded "Slaughter In The Vatican" (the album... not the demo) their vocalist Kyle Thomas left the band. Phil Anselmo was a huge Exhorder fan and was not in a band at the time so he auditioned for the band. Exhorder gave him copies of the "Get Rude" and "Slaughter In The Vatican" demos so Phil could learn the songs. Shortly after that Kyle Thomas re-joined the band and they basically told Phil to get lost... he kept the demos and then went and auditioned for Pantera. He got that job and recorded "Power Metal" with them (which is a kick ass album i might add), but the whole time he was playing the Exhorder demos for the rest of Pantera and they basically stole the sound. Even Dimes signature guitar sound was actually exhorders! Keep in mind I am in no way insulting Dime, he was an amazing guitar player and sounded amazing before pantera changed over to Exhorders sound. Die hard pantera fans hate to believe this but its the truth.

here is a picture of mr.asshat himself durring the promo shoot for cowboys from hell... like the shirt?

So pantera got 100% of there sound from Exhorder, if thats true than why didn't Exhorder have close to the Impact Pantera had on metal? Im not saying album sales are everything but Exhorder isn't well known.

Cowboys from hell had some of the "power metal" sound in it (the album.. not the genre) but it sounded more like Exhorders sound than panteras. When the band released Vulgar... and everything after that it was like a shitty Exhorder knock off.

As to your other question...

promotion... the power of the record labels. Exhorder was on Roadrunner Records. RR is pretty big now, but back in 1988/1989 they didnt have much money at all. Without money you cant promote the band well, you cant send them on any huge tours (although exhorder did to two world tours)... in short you cant do anything except hold them back.

Pantera on the other hand was signed to Atco, which was owned by Elektra... AKA Atlantic Records... a MUCH bigger label with a MUCH bigger budget.

do the math

King Diamond and Mercyful Fate were on Roadrunner when it was Roadracer and they are talked about quite a bit.

Because King Diamond and Mercyful Fate didn't SPLIT UP AFTER TWO ALBUMS and thus HAD MORE TIME TO MAKE THEMSELVES MORE WELL KNOWN.

holy shit you're dumb
