Negura Bunget

Probably the top 3 bm bands atm. As for dso, anything SMRC onwards. It really doesn't matter, I started with smrc as it had only been out for a little while when I first spun it. So I guess just start with smrc and work your way through chronologically and know if they click and you start to love it by the time you get to Fas, it will obliterate you. Dso are very worth persisting with they hit me pretty hard almost immediately and gradually became my favorite band atm. But the case seems to be with a fair few people I've spoken to it takes a little while to click.

I had a really hard time getting into DsO aswell, but once it clicks, it clicks.

as for recommended DsO-material:
[LP - 2007] Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum
[EP - 2005] Kénôse (considered by the band as something of an "appendix" to Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice)
[LP - 2004] Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice

Try Kénôse then.. it's only 3 tracks long, and it always leaves me wanting moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooore!

II is still my favourite song of theirs.

Well, i find that they are effective at expressing their.. um.. seriousness, and spirituality, without coming off as cheesy at all. And not many bands can do that.

you really do get that "real" feel off them. they'd found the limit, they do it but not crossing the line like a lot off BM does. some of the bands try so hard to keep "i do BM, im all dark and twisty, and i dont like jesus at all" it just makes me laugh.
really nice and somewhat reassuring to find this kind of attitude. makes you feel like youre not the only one whos actually listening. cant explain it any better..

I really agree, and I get the same feeling when listening to DsO and WITTR.

Personally i think Doom and it's numerous variations are at least equal, if not better, than the black metal around atm.

But black metal definitely annihilates death metal.

Dm is pretty pitiful atm. Very few bands that grab me attention let alone anywhere near the same league as bm. Esoteric is the clear winner of doom atm, they would be within the top 10. Doom is way better than dm atm thats for sure. I could count on one hand the amount of contemporary dm bands I don't mind. Doom however would require a few more hands.

NB, along with DSO, WITTR and their ilk, are probably the best black metal band going these days. It's great to think back to the fledling days of the genre and wonder how bm became such an astoundingly progressive, forward thinking music style as opposed to, say death metal.

Going to see them live in November, cannot fucking wait. Apparently their shows are astounding. Must look up some clips online...

I must that DM is a little crappy these days. All DM bands seem to be trying to go back to "old school" DM, which does get boring. I don't listen to DM all that often anyway, but I just picked up Bloodbath's album with Mike. That's NOT boring, but I listen in small doses. I think I might check out some DsO. Also, I'll probably pick up Wolves too. I read about them on mySpace, and the album's supposed to be about man vs. beast or something. Anyone know if it's a prehistoric thing?? That would be sweet!!

Question about Wolves in the Throne Room: Is 'Two Hunters' any better than 'Diadem of 12 Stars'? Because I have the latter album and while it is solid, it definitely doesn't blow me away... which is a shame, because I had been informed that they 'destroy' Weakling, which I have certainly NOT found to be the case - especially the one riff in 'Queen of the Borrowed Light' that sounds eerily similar (but not as good as) to a certain Weakling riff (don't remember which song).... Don't mean to give the wrong impression here, I think WitTR are a good band, but I'm just feeling a little disillusioned right now. =\
