Nevermore noob here

I mean I like all nevermore albums, but after ridiculous amounts of listens I like the dissonance in PoE, DNB, and EoR.

Dead Heart and TGE while very good have this kind of consonant "epic" kind of vibe going that I guess I don't like as much.

yus!

Nevermore needs to do a light ballads-only album. those are the tracks that always stand out the most to me

It sounds strange, but I agree. Well, actually it's not so strange because their ballads are my favorite of any band. It could be a really good idea.

I still love Believe in Nothing, and most people hate DHIADW. I think their ballads allow Warrel to really shine vocally.

I love their progressive elements... like the entire middle section of TGE title track. I wish they'd do a lot more stuff like that.

Born > EoR
Final Product < Ambivalent
My Acid Words < Never Purify
Bittersweet Feast < Tomorrow Turned Into Yesterday
Sentient 6 > I, Voyager
Medicated Nation < Create The Infinite
Sell My Heart For Stones < Noumenon
Psalm of Lydia + Future Uncertain = Who Decides
TGE < Seed Awakening

I think TGE was a phenomenal album and song for song above EoR. However, I think there was a real lack of songs that truly grab you in TGE aside from the title track and Sentient 6.

I've found myself shying away from overly progressive stuff. Why does Primordial give me a shiver with their simple, 3/4 time and "terzini" found in most folk music? It's not difficult, but GODDAMMIT it grabs you by the fucking balls and doesn't let go. Shining example would be Empire Falls. Conversely, why does the complexity and wizardry of a band I love equally such as Nevermore leave me a little flat sometimes? Personal tastes of course, but I think that good songwriting does not equal exemplary playing.
