New album: Work has begun already....!!!!.....

because it's the epitome of puzzle piece mish-mash arranging. it doesn't flow or have any direction, it just meanders along. if you completely rearranged the riff and section order, took one out, or added one, I doubt anyone would notice. there's some good individual riffs/sections, but the song feels so much like a jaded Opeth with nothing left to do in that phase of their musical life. just because it's 20 minutes long doesn't automatically mean it's good. there's nothing special about it as a song whatsoever

or something

Maybe you would prefer listening to a well-constructed verse-chorus-verse song from Britney Spears or something. I can't stand all these people who say "teh song doesn't flow well". Ummm........maybe it's not supposed to, BRI is a unique song, which reflects teh emotions and the desperate....ummmm....yearnings of a tormented soul, which is seeking teh embrace from a fading spirit. Maybe you are not listening to the song right, if you were listening to it as the tumultuous journey that it is, then maybe you wouldn't be making such asinine comments.

And btw, it is actually very good AS WELL as being 20+ minutes.

This coming from a guy who listens to Pink Floyd and Dream Theater on a regular basis: BRI is not that great. It's not their worst song, but there is a difference between a 20 minute track that flows naturally from start to finish and a 20 minute track that could be cut up into a few smaller tracks with little noticeable difference.

Don't get me wrong, it's a solid piece, but I don't think it deserves a lot of the praise it gets. To Bid You Farewell kicks its ass.

I will use as an example something posted on another forum: The Sistine Chapel painting was a great work of art. This can be agreed upon, I think. It could also be said that this painting is too "busy" or there is too much going on, and it could be divided into many smaller paintings. But of course you would be called a dumbass for saying that, IMO the same goes for saying that about BRI! While not necessarily as important as that painting it, is not necessary to speculate about what Black Rose Immortal "should" be like. Write your own song. BRI is amazing.

I agree with you that "to bid you farewell" is definately one of the top tracks, but it comes at a strong #4 to me as Advent, NATSW, BRI are the contenders. I mean shit, "to bid you farewell" is absolutely fucking brilliant, but I prefer slow styles off of Still Life or Damnation days more than I do the slow pace of that song.

EDIT: and believe me, if opeth wanted to make BRI into multiple songs they would of. That's why it's so special to me, is because Mikael wanted you to feel that song as a whole.

this post made me laugh. now the question is whether or not it was supposed to

"MAYBE THE SONG SUCKS BECAUSE THEY WANTED IT TO SUCK. EH? EH?"

there's nothing "deep" or "brilliant" about Black Rose Immortal. it's lackluster songwriting. BRI isn't "busy", there isn't "too much going on", it's just a trainwreck of an arrangement. it's full of decent riffs and no standout sections. it just drags on. the boys saw it pass the 20 minute mark and decided "alright, that's enough randomly placing random riffs any old place. say, this is pretty fucking boring. why don't we completely transform our sound for the next album?"

the Britney Spears comment made absolutely no sense. I don't listen to Britney Spears because it's shit music, not because it's "well-constructed"

lmao it's you who needs to stop making such stupid assumptions, telling me I haven't given BRI a "proper listen"

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the song and believe it contains some of morning rise's finest moments, but it's certainly not by any means a compisitional masterpiece. In fact I think it's arrangement is overall pretty naive, with quite a few filler riffs and "cop out" transitions. The song should have also ended after he whispers "black rose immortal"

lol who really gives a fuck? ok, theres a few moments where the song isnt so good but really, it was at the start of their career. thank the gods for bri because it just might have been the song that made them realise theyd outgrown that style. and next came MAYH dammit. if you want a perfectly constructed song listen to a band that does shit by the book. doesnt mean itll be good music. id rather listen to an 'incohesive' bri than a perfectly constructed piece of shit.

There are plenty stand out sections: "I wear a naked soul" "eyes atatched to your mute portrait..", "Another soul within..." and OC the ending.

I'm sure the guys from Opeth are cutting their wrists over a few overANAL fans who think their song is "incohesive", lol

the Opeth guys don't fucking care if I don't like BRI. you're playing a defensive buttboy and you have retarded arguments

so why are you criticizing BRI because you think it is "poorly constructed"?

you've misunderstood or haven't read my posts. that goes for a couple others it looks like as well. you'd think I said "BRI sucks because it doesn't follow a formulaic song structure". it takes an impressive amount of cluelessness to derive that from my posts

I actually have no idea what those sections are, which kinda proves my point
