new anathema sucks. it seems like a forced sound, like they are trying their best to not be heavy. their older stuff was raw and had far more emotion then this new "atmospheric fag shit". :hotjump:
that's not a good enough answer for some people, who must prove you are wrong for not liking it.Whatever happened to "I am just not digging it"?

Arguably, you could say the same thing about blues, but every now and again comes along a musician that still manages to spin it off into something fresh and enticing enough for people to come back and listen to it. There doesn't need to be a lot of experimentation or newfound path of composing the music, necessarily. Hell, you could put on just about every other mainstream category of north american/western european music in the past half century and accuse it of being a dead end street under the same pretenses.

well i was speaking in general, not referring to replicated's post. he actually gave several reasons why he doesnt like it, but that still wasnt good enough for you.Um no. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but there's a difference between "meh", "I'm just not digging it", and "it's atmospheric fag music", the latter being a stereotypical douchebag metalhead response.

I'd say Ulver has gotten better with their evolution. Shadows of the Sun is a fantastic album and although I like all their stuff, that one is my favorite.
Also, metal for the most part is pretty one-dimensional when it comes to death, black, and thrash metal. The only genre that seems to keep things lively is doom and some stoner doom stuff...but that's all about experimentation. You wouldn't think so because there's only so much you can do with that style of music, but so many bands keep coming out with fresh and interesting material while thrash metal has been ripping itself off for the past 20 years.
And for the record, I WOULD say the same thing about blues...there's only so much you can do with a blues scale. It's downright boring. Every now and then someone comes along to impress people with finger acrobatics but ultimately they're not doing anything new. But it's blues...they don't need to do anything new. I like listening to all the old delta blues greats but that's about it. SRV can suck it. People who play in a bluesy way like Jerry Cantrell are much more interesting than just straight blues players.
As a die hard old school Ulver fan, I am truly afraid to listen to anything past Nattens Madrigal... But as far as new and different Black Metal is concerned, I think everyone can agree that Drudkh are doing a great job of putting a new spin on it.
And with blues, some would say that Wolfmother and Cage the Elephant are rewiring that old formula and there's some cool shit that still revolves around that genre like that.
And why does SRV have to suck it? Have you ever seen another musician do scuttle buttin' whilst smokin a pipe? That's one of the best things to come out of texas in the past 25 years (Besides Absu, of course):
