Actually, I've used every bridge pickup up there except for the Evo1 :D The Super Distortion wasn't bad, but it just paled in comparison to EMG's IMO, I felt like I was partially disconnected from my tone/playing when I went back to one guitar with the SD immediately after playing another with EMG's. As for the JB, I really don't like how flubby it's been in every guitar I've played that has one. And after my test above, I think we all know what my feeling on Blackouts is :D (and yes, the bridge model is incredibly and annoyingly hot, I remember trying to use it in the neck when I put an 81 in the bridge, and even though the Blackout was at like 2/3 the height of the 81 in the bridge, it was just so much louder when toggling, and in clean you could hear that the middle position barely even sounded like it had any bridge twang blended in since it was so much softer)

For your style music, EMGs all the way. If it were for me though, I would pick the Dimarzio Super Distortion 100%!
+1 :D

I've played the 81/85 combo... who in this forum hasn't?

I don't like the JB, personally.

I have a Super Distortion in the bridge of my Ibanez.

Marcus i think your test are biased, cause you used to love your dual rec.......I THINK MESA HIRED AND YOU SAID OH NO DUAL RECS ARE CHEAPER THAN ROAD KINGS, OH YEAH MARCUS TELL EM YOUR GASIN FOR A ROADKING, AND BE LIKE OOH LIKE I AM GONNA BULLSHIT THAT TEST, same with emg and seymour D:

fuck i am high

i love blackouts.

I would say EMG 81/85, however if you were to opt for passives might I suggest a Bill Lawrence L500XL and L500R. I have the Bill and Becky ones as apposed to the Bill Lawrence USA(No experience with these) and am very happy with them. They cost not lots and are actually bloody good.

Hahahahahahahhahahaha Ryan  But hey, you get great results with your Blackouts, so fuck it, no reason to switch if you're happy!

man marcus sorry, i was so hiiigh last night i was like fucking team rocket when they fly off after getting there ass whooped and they do that sparkle thing,

thats how fucking gone i was

i like blackouts

1. cheaper
2. sound a bit more unique i guess

I voted JB/59( just to be different - that and I'm listening to a bit of Michael Amott right now and lovin it. :kickass:

I have an all mahogany guitar, and have switched from 81/85 to SD Custom/59.
I think as far as SD passives go, Custom/Jazz would be an equivalent of 81/85 in mahogany.
Just decide whether you prefer passive or active pickups.

I fucking LOVE THIS THING <3 :kickass::kickass::kickass:

Sorry to be off-topic and negative but d00d that's one FUGLY looking axe.

It looks like some kind of garish ornament you'd find in some seaside gift shop in the 70's. :yuk::yuk::yuk::yuk:

The 85 and the Jazz are EXTREMELY EXTREMELY different pickups. The 85 is fat, warm, smooth, and high output. The Jazz is tight, bright, spanky, and low output.

I would be surprised if the 81 sounds like the Custom, considering that the Custom is an Alnico magnet and the 81 is ceramic.
