Just finished the new drdoom tracks for the upcoming splits, vocal recordings took a while because our singers a busy man but we final finished it hehe

Not realy satisfied about the mix yet, specially vocals (the dudes haaaarrd to record) and i would like your feedback, i still got a day or 2 to do some tweaks after it goes to print so any pointers to make it better would be cool, thanks in advance!

Just couldn't get into the mix right this time :(
My first attention points were the still kinda muddy guitars and the too loud snare with too many 240 hz..

tracks are, Few Dead Man and This Is Our Funeral.

Wow... this stuff grinds!

Kickass man... i agree on the vocals, they somehow sound too harsh compared to the mix... it sounds like the vocals are trying to keep up with the mix, trying to get the same amount of volume... hard to explain for me in english at the moment, but i think you get what i mean.

I like the guitars as they are.. a bit muddy? why yes... is that wrong though? why no.... i like it.

Kickass mix JB, lovely elevator music for sure.

Sounds good man, I really dig your stuff.

Specifically that intro track posted a while ago.

Did you use the same ribbon/dynamic mic combo for guitars? Which amp??

-Joe

The first Grindcore-band I can listen to for more than a minute :D
I personally like the snare as it is. The guitars are fine, too.

I can't stand the singer-guy, sorry :D

This mix is just sm57, the ribbon is a tad to slow on transients for the fast stuff i think..
Still using it in de intro though :)

Too make the track a little more clear i reamped the marschall track (it was brunetti + a Marschall 800) through a pod for the high end.
Marschall allways sound veerrry dry to me for some reason, the 800 anyway, maybe i should try other mics..

Ah cool, thanks for the reply man. :)

By transients, you mean...?? Sorry for the newb questions.

Jb, It sounds really nice! I agree about the snare though, too loud and too much of that 200-ish stuff there. try boosting 10khz by a few db's to get some brightness?

IMO the guitars sound better than on the last release, smoother and thus more ballsy. don't change 'em!

Were just about to record the full length tomorrow!

Drumsetup being:

Kick: Shure beta 91 + D6 + subkick into Tubetech.
Snare top sm57 + i5 into Universal audio 4110
Snarebottom sm7
Toms are md421 into audient asp008.
Ohs are U87's into Universal audio 4110
Rooms are Ecm1000's into tubetechs.
Ride and china are at2020 into audient.

All going into rme converters.

And the drumkits a Pearl session SBX with custom Odery snare and mostly a-custom shinystuff!

I can only dream on how the drums on the full length are gonna sound, but this should give a headstart!
I'll keep you updated!

Thanks dude! you from the band manegarm btw?

Anyhoo, drums turned out great!

Little sample, only a bit of compression on kick/snare and everything sent to a group with some compression aswell:

Really good stuff! Guitartone is very Grindcore'ish and lovely...brütal.
So what did you use for the guitartone? You were speaking somethig about reamping through pod?
Loved to get some details!

Hheheheh.. Allthough we eventually only used the Soundcity with a Hm2 on allmost full throttle through a Marschall v30 cab miced with a Sm7b.

The Sunn and brunetti sounded awesome too, but this fit best for some reason...

Sounds good. I really like your usage of compression, most would say it's too much but I think it works perfectly at adding a nice character to the music. Plus i like how natural the drums sound.

also I want a beta lead now.

HELL YEAH FOR BETA LEADS!!!! :kickass::kickass::kickass:
God I love mine. Works for everything... but its deliciously loud and plays well with PODs.

Those raw drums sound absolutely bitchin, dude. Toms are up a bit too far IMO but the snare sounds great.

You used the SoundCity for the second clip you posted? Sounds really fat.

Last clip is Soundcity, and the second one is Pod i think haha

The Soundcity is a weird beast but just awesome if you want weird sounds and work with distortion pedals!

What do you mean by plays well with pods btw?
