kick ass fucking artwork, very awake era esque...

heard the teaser from the album and it sounded kinda systematic chaosy which had me worried but then again it's just a demo so i hope it was just my brain.

i really hated SC and wish they return to their older sound of more 80's pop, prog, and jazz influenced songwriting. i hate the more conventional metal and instrumnetal approach where it;s like heavy riff a, heavy riff b, chorus, mad notes, solo, keyboard/guitar unison, mad notes, riff a, riff b, etc. etc.

boring as fuck and forced. but hey, gotta be optimistic, i actually liked octavarium and really liked train of thought but accepted them as just like one off departures from their traditional sound. SC pushed it further and failed miserably, some good parts here and there but overall it blew.

i hope the new one is better.

I agree with everything you said above. Dream Theater remains one of my favorite bands and I will always support them, they are the coolest, but...

If the album sounds as much like Images & Words and Awake as the cover LOOKS like those covers, this will be the best Dream Theater album in 15 years.

I seem to be the only person in existence that hates Awake.
Seriously, that album is an epic suckfest.

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Disk 1 is easily the best collection of songs they've ever written IMO.
I digged ToT and Octavarium, wasn't too into Systematic Chaos but I'll give this album a spin for definate. DT are pretty cool.

Yeah.. I've never got into it either. Lifting Shadows from a Dream is 'good' but just 'good, the rest are just meh to me. SFAM also >.>.. a few good songs but nothing spectacular.

DT used to be one of my favourite bands.. don't listen to em much anymore, kinda grown tired of the music (all of it, not just the recent stuff). I&W is still a godly album though, and I'll be checking this one out too.

I seem to like every DT album that others hate. I think I&W, FII and SC are one of their best ones. Awake too. The rest have a nice song here and there, but are very poorly structured as an album entirety. Not to mention how I hate Rudess's keyboard wankery with a passion. He's getting worse and worse over time with speed instead of style :erk: I know he can do better than that, because every now and then he does some cool stuff.

I liked SC?

I thought there was some killer playing on it.

But if it's like Images, then suck me sideways cause that album RIPZ.

And what the fuck is up with their artwork all the time??
It's like all random ass images on some landscape and everyone is like "OHH SNAP! ELEPHANTS, CLOCKS AND SPACE!!! SOOOOO PROG!!!!"

Come the fuck on dudes. It's like the family guy of artwork.

HAHAHAHAHAHahaahahha, yup, that sounds like DT recently! (nerdy goofuses who try to either be "artsy" or "cool" and fail miserably at both)

Glad I am not the only one snickering at their 1998-Photoshop-style artwork ...

ah always a great debate. we all love them and we all hate them.
they influenced so many people and musicians over the world.
now they make huge ass tours and fill stadiums every night. Who else can claim that ?
RESPECT. yo.

what's nice about their career is that anybody can appreciate one period of their history. it's only a matter of taste.
I think they are at the right place at the right time. if Images and Words was cool in 1991, we are in 2009 and I don't want to have band releasing something like that today (even if I dig I&W)
