i would just get the mac and logic. you dont necisserily need to get a mac pro. you could just get an imac and then get a bit better interface such as the apogee ensemble or even just a fire pod? the duet is very sweet, but has limited inputs and outputs which really turns me off! the duet is useless for reamping!
some will say that they have heard of issues with the imac`s fw card and shit, but i have used an imac with a firepod extensively since 2006 with no problems!
logic pro has been awesome! my liquid mix runs fine without a problem!
it seems that everyone is jumping on the mac/logic bandwagon lately which I beleive is for a good reason! editing in logic is easy! there are lots of free tutorials such as waterboys that will teach you everything! apple has very good support! I have called the pro apps help desk on a couple occaisons and got very good support! for free!
individual wav files can be bounced from logic then these can be sent to be mixed in protools, or vice versa, so compatibility with protools isnt that big of a deal!
