Absolutely Awesome!!!!... The band has never sounded tighter!!...
Matt on Declaration Day - Are you Kidding Me??? I had chills up and down my arms listening to him sing that song....... Matt was flawless the entire show. It reminded me of how just how good they sounded when I saw them on the "Something Wicked Tour"....

Anyway highly recommended for any Iced Earth Fan.
The energy in the first show will blow you away...

sound, visuals, it's all there...............

Are the Ripper shows good?

I saw IE with Matt when he came back and he sang "Ten Thousand Strong" well but that intro high note was too much for him...it may be different on the DVD.

Only watched the Metal Camp show so far. It sounds like they recorded the instruments direct... It's a little too clean compared to Alive in Athens I think. Does the other show with Matt sound basically the same? Also, I didn't expect to say this, but I miss Larry who played all the guitar parts faithfully. The current guitarist's solo in The Coming Curse is worse than Glen Drover butchering a Marty Friedman solo.

I'm not sure, I just know that the production on "Alive in Athens" absolutely sucked!! It gets hated on quite a bit in reviews. Even John himself will tell you that it sucked....So far the new DVD has been given 11 reviews all 5 stars!!!...

I can't speak for the other guitarist, but the drumming as well as Jon and Matt both sound incredible on the DVD, but Matt REALLY brings it.... His passion and emotion is flat out amazing....

Best songs: #1 Burning Times, #2 Declaration Day, #3Violate, #4 Coming Curse, and #5 Pure Evil.....I like them all but those are my favorite. I haven't heard the DVD with Ripper yet or the Rock Hard Festival. But the Metal Camp Show is fucking awesome!! The Metal Camp Show and the documentary are worth the price of the DVD alone. I just look at those other 2 shows as bonuses....

I just wish the set lists were different between the 3 festivals. I'm not sure why they do it that way.

I thought the same when I've seen them. I'm not a big fan of Barlow doing Ripper songs as it just doesn't work for me, but maybe once I get the DVD, my opinion will change.

Jon says that because he's a perfectionist. I don't prefer the studio sound with no flaws, very little crowd noise and overdubbed third guitars, personally. Alive in Athens had horrible 5.1, but an excellent stereo soundtrack. The camera work wasn't great, but had more consistent close-ups.

If only we could have gotten Violate, Pure Evil, and Travel in Stygian at ProgPower.

Honestly, I wish they would do EVEN MORE old songs live: When the Night Falls, Burnt Offerings, or the *REAL* trilogy: Angels Holocaust - Stormrider - Path that I Choose.

That's funny because many people complain about DVDs because they ARE "flawed".... I'll take a "flawless" DVD anyday over a flawed DVD. i want to make sure I get my money's worth. There is some crowd noise in the DVD, especially when they sing some of the choruses...On the flip side you have a DVD like Rush's Live in Rio that has WAY WAY too much crowd noise, too the point where you can 't hardly hear the band.

Anyway I do understand your point in that you want more of a live sound as opposed to studio sound, but the band was still incredibly tight...I was reading a couple of message boards about the DVD, from a couple of people that were at the Greece show and they both commented that they've seen Iced Earth a few times, but they were completely locked in that night and it was a magical night(I'm speaking of the camp show).....

Matt steals the show though :)

Among my favorite live albums are Live After Death and Alive in Athens, so that's just the sort of raw sound I go for. The less overdubs and noise scrubbing, the better for me. I'm not a fan of flawed production, just of realistic representation.

And yeah, Matt steals it :p
