new katatonia video

Erik: I only used the term "gothic" because of the close resemblance to Paradise Lost's 'Gothic'. I don't associate Katatonia with the vampire crowd at all. I'm perfectly OK with not using the term for Katatonia, but I've seen it used so many times before, I just thought it help a newbie out. Please don't e-punch me!

that's cool then. yes there is a HUGE resemblance to "gothic", katatonia has admitted that they were basically a paradise lost clone band back then, except they took all the paradise lost elements to the EXTREME with "brave murder day", being basically "gothic" except really minimalistic repetitious and extreme. but as i keep having to say to mike about 5472 times a day, paradise lost's album "gothic" has NOTHING to do with what's called "GOTHIC METAL" today! it's a god damn death doom album (with some really inventive lead guitar work, orchestrals and female vocals) and nothing else. WHEN it came out, there wasn't a fucking genre called "GOTHIC METAL". fuck off.

That same thing has happened with the term "noisecore". It used to actually mean something. Now every band that makes a "dissonant" sound is termed "noisecore".

I really really feel I can't relate to any of the post metal Katatonia (anything after Sounds of Decay really). Just seems alot less inspired to me. I also feel they were never an album band, while I love their albums, I feel their prime material is from EPs (JHVA's Without God, Funeral Wedding off For Funerals to Come, At Last from Sounds of Decay, Scarlet Heavens in Saw You Drown).

It just doesn't feel like the same band.

"My Twin," as good as it is, just doesn't have much to it. The chorus is repeated far too often and it gets old in a way their older songs didn't.
