New Mesa?

Meh, only in name, it's totally bypassed when the Rectifier switched is flicked to silicon diode! (which I know I ALWAYS used) I would say that the more unique characteristic in Rectifiers is how the preamp and power amp relate to one another in modern mode (no negative feedback from the power amp bleeding the excessive highs, instead the preamp is low-passed)

Lol, I get what you're saying Wolfeman, but isn't the rectifier tubes/circuit what makes a rectifier............well a rectifier?

Even without the rectifier tubes it still has a rectifier in it, so the name can stay lol. Just gotta drop the single/double/triple designation.

I dont think using the solid state rectifier really tightens things up too much more. These amps are so fucking tight either way. people say that they sound sloppy, but the truth is, is that it is because they sound so tight that people think they are sloppy.

rectifiers do the same thing to your guitar technique, that ns10s do to your mixes! put them under a fucking microscope, and emphasizes shortcomings.

Ok well i talked to the rep and i'm not allowed to say anything about the new recto's but will say it is going to be the ultimate recto they added a lot of old two channel features and some newer features from some of there other amps. and also there will be no change in price from the now three channel recto's to the new recto's coming out in January after namm

i could not disagree more...

Thats a horrible analogy in my opinion, NS10's are hardly revealing speakers in my experience. Have you ever mixed on those compared to say K&H0300's, Expose's, Twin 6's, Barefoots... Or even a good set of Mains?

I love rectifiers but hate ns10's. Not a true monitor at all and they dont work for shit unless you have a CineMag or anyone of the Hafler or Bryston amps pushing them. But thats JMO.

im not implying that the ns10s are "flat" sounding speakers, or that they should be used as primary mixing speakers. and no I have never used them myself, but going frm what I have read in this article http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep08/articles/yamahans10.htm

It s been scientifically proven that ns10s accentuate the frequencies that out ears are most sensitive to. If your mix sounds decent through ns10s, most likely it will sound good through anything. This is much like a rectifier. If you can make a rectifier sound good, then you could probably plug into any amp with a tubescreamer (jcm800, 5150 whatever) and get a decent sound. I fail to see how this a bad analogy. It makes perfect sense. Its not a matter of opinion. its fact. So many musicians blame their shortcomings on not having "x" amp or guitar

and, yes using the solid state rectifier does tighten shit up a bit, but cmon, its not as big of a difference as say, using another cabinet, or not using a tube screamer

and jval, you can disagree if you want, but your not doing your self any favors as a guitarist/mix engineer. rectifiers dont distort the same way kids with metal zones think they do. they are very unforgiving of your mistakes / sloppy technique. what you hear is what you get.

Get rid of the useless parts that would drop the price to a reasonable level?

Just by ditching the useless rectifier tubes/circuit would help considerably.

There's already such amp, called Single Rectifier. Or did you mean they should not use a rectifier at all? :goggly:

Each amplifier in the Rectifier series got its name from the amount of RECTIFIER TUBES IN IT (one tube for each pair of power tubes). EVERY GUITAR AMP has a rectifier in it, usually a pair of silicon diodes, which are a million times more reliable than, and respond faster than, tube rectifiers.

Is it clear now?

I guess I'm one of the few guys who likes the rectifier tubes. I probably use the silicon diodes 90% of the time, but for leads, the rectifier tubes give a nice gooey feel. It's great.

Anyway, cool to hear about the new rectifier... I'll be interested to check it out.

I see no rectifier tube nor a switch for it in any of the single rectifiers. Where is it?

nah, rectos ARE sloppy and loose. in fact, I would never ever use one without a tubescreamer boosting the front. I prefer boosting with a tubescreamer on most amps, but amps like Engl especially are already plenty tight without one. the tubescreamer just adds a nice extra little character... rectos desperately NEED it though...
