New metallica for those interested

Not that I'm defending them but - from metallica.com -

'Last week we celebrated our 30th anniversary together with Fan Club members from around the world by playing four nights at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco . . . it was quite the bash each and every night! If you were able to join us at any or all of the parties, thanks for coming out to hang with us. And whether or not you were there, you may have heard that we added some unreleased tracks from the Death Magnetic sessions to the set list – one “new” song each night as part of the shenanigans on stage.

This week, we’re releasing those four tracks through iTunes exclusively in North America and on iTunes and additional digital retailers in other parts of the world as the Beyond Magnetic EP. All four studio versions of these songs were sent to Met Club members for free immediately following their live debut on stage at the Fillmore and tomorrow they will be available to everyone via the magic of digital downloading. They are the rough mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March of 2008, and those of you with very keen senses of sound might recognize bits and pieces from the ‘Mission Metallica’ videos posted in the summer of 2008.'

So basically it's four unmixed songs that weren't good enough for Death Magnetic...

Seriously... Metallica used to have some of the best sounding drums of all time.. And since St. Anger they sound like ass... The biggest "metal" band on the planet is somehow not able to hire a good producer or what?

Ok, just read the post above me.. Still... :D Fuck em :D

I can't make it past the first line in this without thinking about MAshed Potato Johnson.

"Is there anything else to sing about really... than trains?"

I like it. Sure, the production is bad. It´s a rough unmixed track but it´s totally listenable.

sounds like a rip from there "some kind of monster"-movie, any rehearsal-scene :D
never thought of become a "the old records are the better ones"-fan but since "St. Anger" every record is like an unfunny joke...

I wonder if the reason they did not have these tracks mixed is because if some one did a good job of mixing them it would demonstrate how bad the mix of Death Magnetic is.

I listened to the song. It's an ok song. If it was mixed better it would be decent.

It could be decent yeah. So, the question is, why release this unfinished, is it to look cool and underground and say it's a garage release ? Why not have someone mix that correctly ?

Meh, I can't get used to today's metallica drums. All fills feel forced and boring. WTF is wrong with them. A few riffs were okay and could sound pretty powerful with a good production, but that's about it. As usual, I enjoy James riffing and palm muting, hate the horrible wah solos, don't really like today's Jame's singing although at least he has some stamina, and bass does the job but nothing more.

in a forum where most members are much, much more mature than your regular metal forum, i'd expect at least SOME of you not to act like a bunch of babies and attack metallica on sight, it's not like they're... i don't know... the biggest metal band in history? and for a good fucking reason. they've earned every buck they made for every CD and every concert ticket.
fact is these guys play their instruments more than twice the age of some members here and they have been doing what they do for years now.

if you don't like the song, just say you don't like it, don't disrespect the one band that we are would give kidney to just attend a studio for even one hour while they're recording.
and for the record, before someone says their last album is shit, DM is a fucking brilliant album that sounds horrible for reasons that have nothing to do with the band members themselves.

the "in" thing to do on the internet is to attack metallica. you would think that thy have no fans left if you only read the comments on you tube, blabbermouth, blogs and even this site. I wonder how they still fill stadiums across the globe with so much hatred out there.

I like the 4 songs released and think the production is OK. It brings the point across and sounds like a band playing live, which is what they were going for.

You always seem to come into these threads to defend Metallica.

"DM is a fucking brilliant album "
Subjective. I personally think it's god awful music and I know many people here agree with that sentiment.

It has nothing to do with it being the "in thing" to attack Metallica or people "being a bunch of babies". People just genuinely don't like it, shouldn't be too hard to understand.
I don't give a flying fuck if they are the "the biggest metal band in history", and couldn't give a hoot if I found out James Hetfield was in fact, literally god reincarnated into human form, because it doesn't change the fact that I find a good majority of their music either boring or so bad that I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemies to be locked in a room with St Anger and Death Magnetic played all the way through.

Give up the crusade man and let it go man. You're not changing anyone's opinion on the issue, we've made up our minds clear as day.

Production is not the problem here. Songwriting on the other hand...

This. People shouldn't even be worrying about the production when the music is this terrible. Good production wouldn't polish this turd.

Metallica seriously needs to send you a Metallica Defender badge.

I don't like the song. Ever since James started trying to copy CoC riffs and going yea-heyah! all the time they started sucking imo.
