new My Dying Bride album sample

Wasn't that the night when your drummer got left behind at the venue or something? LOL I kinda recall something like that, I think we were babysitting him for a while. Christ it was only a couple years ago but I can barely remember, I was dead tired that night. That was also the show when our buddy Dan got onstage and sang with us and then proceeded to fall off the stage afterwards! Luckily he was okay.

Funny now thinking about that short ND/Saturnus jaunt here in the States, it was so brief but there was alot of incidents and stories from it!

Yeah, those steps were something! Now you see Dan, now you don't! "Where'd he go? He just did the song with us!" Ouch! At least it was a fun night, and he had a good frame of mind about the incident. I had a wicked headache that night, but made it through with no trouble.

I didn't mean it as a slam to Zod.
I know he likes Trivium.
I personally can't stand them, primarily due to the vocals.

Just pointing out that not everyone gets every band.

Well, you get TRIVIUM, where most of us don't, so to each his own, right?
LOL. True.

I like some Trivium. Very good guitarists, and the rhythm section was rather impressive when I saw 'em live a while back.
Agreed. They're pretty solid live.

Just curious... Heafy has three somewhat distinct vocal styles. Do you hate all three? Or just the hardcore screams?

Zod

Zod -
I have seen Trivium live one time (Ozzfest 2005) and seen a few videos.
It's just the whole "forced aggression" tough guy stuff I don't like.
Maybe he has vocal styles I haven't heard.
Same reason I could never get into Machine Head.
Musically, I think they are good, but the vocals ruin it for me.

Let me ask you........
What is it about MDB that doesn't click for you?
Vocals? Tempo? Just curious.

So, I've only listened to it once all the way through... The first thing you notice, that stays consistent through the entire recording is the BLEAK sound. If I were to ever kill myself, this could very well be the CD I put on to do it. It's so... Lonely sounding. Very empty, and cold. The distorted guitars are more subdued. It's NOT like the last CD at all. This is doomy and depressing. The return of the violins are great. It's a nice touch, and they didn't over do it. They are tastefully added.

The biggest change, is Aaron is doing a lot more vocally this time around. Lots of harmonies, and at times he sings in a higher register. Very cool stuff.

There is only one tune on here that is in the death metal genre, and it's more black metal sounding. He does some different things with his voice on this song, "A Chapter in Loathing".

It's going to be a grower for me. It's SOOOO dismal, it's tough to grab me right away, as I need to be in the right mindset to absorb it fully.

it's so gloomy that Paul has to let the darkness grow on him? This is going to rule.

It's just so... Bleak. hahaha I didn't expect that. I had a different vision in my head from talking to Andy about this for about a year, and the picture was a bit different then I thought it would be. That's why it needs to grow on me.

This is going to sound retarded, but you might understand what I mean... It's very familiar MDB sounding, but very different at the same time, tonally. Not as lush or layered sounding. Dry, cold, and lonely. They didn't try to write another "For You". It feels like they went for the wrist razor.

Will I put this on, and get the same feeling as I get with Swans, or Like Gods of the Sun, or even Deathless Kings? No. Not at all. BUT, this isn't supposed to be like that. It's a different feeling. Not better, not worse, different. Familiar but different. haha

One thing for sure, it's 100% MDB.

For Lies I Sire vs The Angel And The Dark River = ?

Vocally, Lies I Sire is far superior. In my opinion, where I think the music on Angel and the Dark River is some of the best MDB has produced, the vocals on that CD aren't as good. It's my least favorite vocal performance.

I think the songs had more hook on Angel and the Dark River, but the closest comparison to some of the riffs, is Angel, and possibly Like Gods of the Sun.

I've never liked My Dying Bride except for a song here and there. But Im still looking forward to this album for some reason.
