New Pro Tools HD Interfaces

Pretty big fail if you ask me. HD Omni is $3k. That plus HD1 which is bare minimum needed to use it (since it still requires the PCI card, it's not a firewire/USB interface) comes out to $11k.

Who has $11k to spend on Pro Tools HD that wouldn't rather be using a 192 with better external preamps? So fucking stupid.

I'm really shocked that they're still requiring you to have the HD cards. Clearly it is an antiquated protocol when you look at the rest of the market. Why not USB3 for instance? Yet again, Pro Tools is behind the curve.

so, these Omni things etc might be useful for some...not for me.

what would be interesting is the HD I/O, BUT that just seems to be a slightly updated 192....so this is what al the "Avid is coming out with something really new and awesome soon" was about?
Everyone was expecting native HD, DSP interfaces etc...what the came up with is just a 192 with improved converters, lol.

I'm happy though, for me this means that the anticipated update didn't outdate me and my system :D

agreed!
word is there may be more coming tommorrow.
we'll see. Didnt know about teh price. Might pick up a cheap 192 now ;)

I'm pretty disappointed. When Avid/Digi didn't include ADC in Pro Tools 8, I cut them some slack. But now I'm pretty convinced that they have little regard for what many of their customers actually want.

The HD I/O is interesting, but it's also $5000 (a full $1000 price increase). There are plenty of great converter options out there for less cash, it's going to have to sound pretty amazing.

I DO like the idea of the new Heat mixer add on; it was designed by Dave at Crane Song and it's built into the actual Pro Tools mixer. VERY cool.

Yeah the Heat plug looks neat because of it's integration.

The rest of it is retarded. The Omni thing is supposed to somehow be directed at guys that need an "inbetween" solution between LE and HD, but it's fucking $11,000. You can buy a used HD2 system with an interface for that price.

I don't think they are announcing anything new tomorrow... There is a scheduled like press/Q&A thing tomorrow, but I think that is because of what is coming out today, not because anything new is coming tomorrow. Would be sort of weird to have 2 back to back sets of product announcements like that?

Wow what an update. Is this all they could come up with after 10years. I think we can abandon the idea of an Native system with these releases. I dont mind that they have a top of the line converters that are really expensive. All i wanted was a 16 i/o without pre's and that they would lock up Hd.. anyway

I can see how this is a "fail" to L.E. users who want to get all the HD features for minimal cost. Unfortunately I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.... it seems like they're actually targeting the "pro" side with these updates rather than trying to include the hobbyists. Maybe that's a smart move... there are tons of pro studios and producers who have spent a lot on HD systems. Keeping them happy and loyal is probably better than compromising their entire hardware/software line just to attract the weekend warriors.

HD I/O: a supposedly significant improvement on the 192 which is already an industry standard... why not? I can see selling my 192 and 96i/o to grab the HD i/o 16x16
OMNI... not really sure what to think of it. Only thing I'd get it for is the monitoring section, but only if it had a remote. price seems a little too steep for that though.

Most excited about HEAT. Analog/tape sim built right into the mixer... awesome! Stoked to try it out, especially with the maker of Phoenix behind it. Listened to the A/B demo and it sounds promising.

The only thing I'm disappointed about is no mention of the rumored unlimited voices in HD. Really could have used that...
