new setlist

#1: Sun Fired Blanks is an all time top 5 DT song. The melody in the chorus should be someone's national anthem. Further, listen closely for the bass at the beginning of the quiet breakdown. It's got all the color and drama of Nether Novas during this quiet moment in the song.

#2: Punish My Heaven and Terminus... take them. They're probably the two most popular DT songs ever, but neither one really does it for me. They're both good, but I think they pale in comparison to some of the other nuggets in the band's repertoire and it mystifies me that they are so popular by comparison.

#3: As I understand it, Indifferent Suns was written by someone who is no longer in the band, so it probably got dropped for songs the current members think are more awesome.

The sun fired blanks? Yeah, thats a great choice to refresh the setilist.
Projector has so many great songs, but the most played was the nice but not my fave UnDocontrol.

This setlist raises my expectations for the gig in munich on friday

Hallöchen! Does anyone know this guy? I think he's wicked. And a bastard because he sees DT like five times per year. Verdammte Summerbreeze, they always play there  . Do post the photos of the gig here!

Yeah UnDocontrol is getting kind of old, I now find that song a bit boring, musically speaking. Perhaps I listened to it too many times.

But indeed! Projector has so many excellent songs that the band should do a Projector + Haven tour! Now wouldn't that be something! :dopey::worship:
Hey, that album is still second in the "favourite album" thread, so that has to mean something.

Well yeah if they were to expand their setlist, that would be awesome. What if they try to break the record of longest heavy metal show? I think that record is currently being hold by Manowar

There's a lot of songs I'd want to add, but especially from Projector and Haven I think. They're DT's most underrated albums, if not among the most underrated albums in the world. No One or On Your Time would be brilliant, but also Nether Novas or To A Bitter Halt would be good. As for Haven, I was already over-excited that they played the title track this tour, apart from the usual The Wonders At Your Feet (which is a classic too, and shouldn't be replaced). Furthermore, I would like to see At Loss For Words there (which is probably never going to happen). I think the odds would be better for Feast Of Burden there. In addition to that I would like to see Fabric as well :)

Two songs I really missed were Dreamlore Degenerate and The Treason Wall. As for The Treason Wall, that was replaced with Damage Done so that was fine, since DD is my favourite track from that album.

Manowar, I believe, has the one for the loudest show, and Lordi has the one of "most people singing at the same time an entire song" or something for Hardrock Hallelujah.

Ohhhh yes At Loss for Words! Being an (applied) linguist, I always love all those DT songs that have to do with words and not being able to express yourself.

Yeah, TSFB is a stupendous song. I haven't paid much attention to the bass, kind of hard to get it at times, but I'll pay more attention.

Terminus and PMH are great songs, and I want them to remain on the setlist. I completely agree that there're much better songs than those (Rundown comes to mind right now), but those are the über-classics (if you notice, one for each generation, the old and the new) and my guess is that they'll always stay in the setlist. Unless there's a Projector + Haven tour. Or unless I see DT five more times, in which it'd be fine to take those songs out.

Indifferent Suns was written by Niklasson + Henriksson, so I guess there might be some "copyright" issues. Maybe, who knows, but I guess that since Martin H. composed it too they should be able to play it live.

The Gathering does the same, Anneke wrote the lyrics but Hans and René composed the songs. Funny story: There was a point in which some songs were played by two bands: TG with Silje on vocals, and Anneke as a solo artist . Binary Strange Machines!

It's at 2:56. I too have troubling digging bass out of a death metal mix, but the guitars are clean and quiet so it's impossible to miss here.

Also, "there're"? Mr. English Professor, that is a perfectly natural thing to say, but completely incorrect to type even in the world of contractions. Kind of like "Watcha doin'" as a form of "What are you doing." The compression makes no sense outside of pronunciation, and is therefore an incorrect contraction (exceptions for artistic license).

Oh yeah, I'd heard that one before. It's pretty nice, I like how it goes "up and down", as if it were creating an expectation and then… BOOM! The chorus comes in!

You mentioned "Death metal mix", but I think it has more to do with the production than a specific band. I haven't heard the re-issues, I wonder if the bass is any better.

Haha well I do take "artistic licenses" every now and then, although I guess that "there're" might be too much.

I noticed that the bass on Rundown is pretty cool too. I feel kind of rundown right now too, which sucks.

On the Haven + Projector tour: I think they should do something similar as Amon Amarth did: some gigs in which they fully play some old albums. They could also do this for The Gallery and The Mind's I I suppose. Good idea?

Didn't know AA did that, nice (even if I don't like the band). I'd vote for a Projector, Haven and DD tour over all things! Forget about the rest, just that! Oh, and Through Smudged Lenses. But only that one! Hehe.

amazing.....gives me shivers.... I def think its a perfect song to the set, i think they need to mix it up with heavier, slower songs just like this one

Icipher has been my fav. Fiction track since say one...love Icipher! I'm glad they're finally playing this (well I haven't check their sets at all this year really, but I remember goin like "why aren't they playing that, it's so soulful, heavenly, ethereal, beautiful etc.)

I'm also glad "One thought" is in there...if that's what the "one" is referring to. It would be even better if it was the one brooding warning. good lord. what I'd do to see that.

A The Gallery tour would MEAN EVERYTHING. That album is so balanced with the technicality too...I'd love to hear Of Melancholy Burning Live

i thought it was nothing to no one? Edit: seems like u are right, its one thought!

After listening to SFB a couple of times i have to admit that it was better than i recalled. I really like the second half of the song, the first is no my cup of tea. Also, im not really found of how mikael sings on this one so maybe ill like it better now.

I totally agree regarding terminus, of all the songs they made they choose this one as their final... I dont get it. Does anyone have an explanation?

I totally miss my negation also, perhaps the best DT track ever.

Yeah, My Negation is a great song! I guess that they close with Terminus because it's (probably) their most popular song (amongst new followers, at least), and hence they maybe want to keep the anticipation, the eagerness, of the crowd till the end. But that's just my guess.

Hm, you must have a weird booklet if it doesn't say it. Maybe you have something really rare and valuable there.
"All female vocals and narration performed by Eva-Marie Larsson."

edit: Wait, you didn't mean to ask who sings during the concerts, did you? In that case, forget what I said replace with this:
In Undo Control Mikael usually just takes over the female parts. I have never heard The Gallery live, but I guess they won't take an extra singer just for those parts with them.

edit: Ah shit, now that I have seen the video, forget what I've said and let this be a lesson to everyone to read and think first before writing. Yeah. And Stuff.

edit: Now that I finished the video: It is Nell Sigland, he says it in the video. She also did the female vocals on Fiction and on the latest live DVD.

I think now I got it.

Does it surprise anyone that I read the above "[...]and drink first[...]"? :kickass:

Anyways, I'm going to see them tomorrow and unless I get too drunk to remember the setlist I'll post it here.

Yesterday's setlist at Oulu (a few songs might be misplaced, I checked online for verification, and the only list I could find was pretty close to mine, so it should be quite corret):

1. At the Point of Ignition
2. The Fatalist
3. Damage Done
4. Lost to Apathy
5. Monochromatic Stains
6. The Gallery *
7. The Wonders at Your Feet
8. Iridium
9. Shadow in Our Blood
10. Focus Shift
11. Icipher
12. Dream Oblivion
13. Misery's Crown
14. Haven
15. Punish My Heaven
----
16. Final Resistance
17. ThereIn
18. Terminus (Where Death Is Most Alive)

* Stanne dedicated The Gallery to yours truly, which was awesome, yet caught me completely off guard, so when he invited me to the stage I felt too embarrassed to go (also, I had fought for my place in the front row and didn't want to lose that) so I tried to politely decline - which didn't stop my friend from trying to lift me from my legs face first over the fence (which was low enough for me to climb over anyway, if I had just wanted to), leading to a rather awkward moment when I was halfway in the air and tried desperately to cling to the fence, while Mikael was laughing his ass off! It was simultaneously the most awesome and the most embarrassing moment of my life! :tickled:

Regardless, I felt the set was awesome and the band played great, despite the fact that some tour-wear was perhaps visible in everyone else except Mikael, who was his brilliant charismatic self, as always. Even though I was somewhat thrown off by the aforementioned debacle, the show as a whole was the best hour+ of my otherwise shitty year.

The previous band, Avatar, was a great warm-up act, but DT certainly didn't need any warming up yesterday.
