I do not have an amp at my house it is at my jam space. I have been recording stuff on my computer using guitar rig for an amp sim. My guitar is plugged direct in via an m-audio firewire solo box. I really do not like any of the tones that guitar rig has to offer and most other amp sim vst's I've tried sort of sound the same.

I know that recording guitar with a mic is ultimately what I am after but I am wondering if there is a better way to record direct in for now. I have a mesa boogie triple rec head at home. Can I hook this direct into my m-audio box and play through that? Has anyone done that and gotten decent heavy tones?

Wow the Torpedo sounds amazing. It's out of my budget though right now. Are there any cheaper ones in the 200 or so dollar range?
