Happy NGD to me! Found at a a price i couldn't walk away from so bought myself a birthday present!

1987 Jackson/Charvel Model 6
Maple Neck
Poplar Body
Rosewood Board
Real MOP inlays

Now I've heard good things about MIJ Jacksons professionals and MIJ Charvels from the 80's and early 90's but....DAMN DUDE!!! I own a USA Jackson soloist and this is 95% EXACTLY the same in build quality and like 1/4 the price!

In terms of sound, they sound totally different, the Charvel has a poplar body and Jackson J50BC humbucker with Mid boost electronics (Pretty much same setup as old Alexi Laiho!). The two guitars feel exactly the same, except the USA soloist has a little deeper cut on the neck joint.

I've never played a 90's MIJ Jackson PRO, but assuming they are on the same level build quality as this MIJ Charvel, I'd recommend anyone who's thinking about getting a USA jackson and wants to save some money DEFINITELY look for one of these!

Enough of me yapping! Pics!

Congrats!

my other guitarist has the same guitar, but with a Kahler.
fantastic instrument!
it doesn't sound very bright/sharp/biting, but it sounds fucking FAT and punchy....great for Doom and slower kind of music....I'm loving that guitar

Does yours also have the active Reflex system?
one pot is volume, the other two are mid boost/cut and treble boost/cut
Pickup is probably a J50B, not a j50BC though.

Laiho is using the JE1000, the reflex is quite different....but awesome

This ones got a J50BC and a JE-1200
1 Vol, one tone, and the 3rd is the midboost blend.

At the bottom of this page, they changed tremelo from kahlers in 86 to jackson trem in 87

Ive got the alexi mm-04 which is based off a Je-1000 in another guitar, and yea you are right they definitely are a bit different.
I really kind of like having the mid boost on a pot though so i can turn it off easily. This guitar is very bright and attacky, not alot of low end going on here

Also, it came with 9's in standard....Feels so wrong lol

Those things rule - the Model 5's were similar and do as well. That JT-6 is directly swappable for an OFR if you feel the need to, although it's generally considered one of the best non-OFR Floyd's out there!

Good to know! We'll see about the bridge.

At the very least I need to find a proper trem bar for it. The original is MIA, its not threaded like normal floyd arms.... Tried a few random Ibanez and fender ones i had laying around and they wouldnt stay stuck in.

Congratulations!

I`m personally prefer non-recessed floyds, so when I wanted alder soloist I bought Caparison TAT because on non-recessed floyd :)
It`s matter of personal preferences, non-recessed floyd feels like tunamatic or kahler.
