First of all, thanks Danny for the Nick Drake recommendation. I picked up Pink Moon a couple weeks ago and I'm hooked. Do you have any other recommendations of that same genre? I've heard that Tim Buckley is similar?

dude, yeah, jeff buckley is amazing.

i picked up nick drake, too, after danny recommended it. man, thats one hell of an album. i would like to hear more of such stuff...

There is a band here (the US) called Songs: Ohia and they are incredible. Basically, it's just a guy, an acoustic guitar, and a lot of emotion. I would definately recommend it for all fans of Nick Drake or Jeff Buckley! The website for the record label is www.secretlycanadian.com

well nick drake is my favourite singer at the moment but jeff buckley was good too. some of you might like roy harper as well. or roger waters or tom waits or fleetwood mac or bad religon or beethoven...

all those you mentioned are in my CD tower, danny. my recommendation to you will again be opeth. especially their last release "still day beneath the sun". mikael akerfeldt said that he wrote the song in one of his nick drake moments. it's a great guitarist-singer track.

Nick Drake is my fav. singer/songwriter...I have all his albums.
As some of you said earlier..check out Jeff Buckley, he is great. James Taylor is another great singer/songwriter!

Nick cave and the bad seeds aren't singer/songwriter music, but it's a real emotional band.

I hope I helped you!:)

By the way...I'm new here so...Hey!

I've heard lots of good things about Nick Cave, can anyone recommend a specific cd?
if you want it aggressive and murky, get "Your Funeral...My Trial." if you want more melodic, but with enough aggression still, get "Let Love In." "Henry's Dream" is very good too.

and listen to Tom Waits!!

D Mullholand - how could you not recommend "boatman's call"?????????????? it is his best album!!!! and there is also "murder ballads"...an album full of murder!
also, no one liked it much but i loved it, i recommend his last album: "no more shall we part".

thats what i think, too. theresnt a weak song on the album.

my friend said that nick cave couldnt speak english. yes, he may have a strange accent and a very peculiar pronounciation but thats no reason an album can suck.
