Nine-year-old viking in training!

Yeah, my eight-year-old wanted an mp3 player loaded with Amon Amarth (which is not half as amazing, though, since she's Johan's niece and she thinks the sun rises out of his hairy ass...still, she has good taste, no?). Thankfully, her nice godfather got it for her.
Am I the only one who wonders how these kids will rebel against us when they're teenagers? I mean, when I was a kid, we rebelled by listening to Anthrax and Metallica and wearing studs and shit. What are they going to do to shock us? Celine Dion?
And for the record, nine y.o was about the age Johan was when I started making him listen to Sabbath, Thin Lizzy and Van Halen for hours (and very loud). IMHO, he turned out pretty damn good.

My mom had me listening to Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Iron Butterfly and Flyod at like 4, and turned out to have some pretty good taste in music if I do say so myself! :headbang:

One more thing....I just went to the store to grab a gatoraide...and this dude behind the counter said to his co-worker...you gotta hear this, Killswitch just did a version of Holy Diver...it's awesome...they do it WAY (he dragged this word out) better than Dio....
Ugh! I was three people backed and screamed are you fucking serious? He said yes...and stared...haha he almost looked scared. So I asked, have you ever heard the song sung by Dio...his reply was No!!!
So I asked, do you plan on listening to it? He said no again. Why listen to Dio when he knew Killswitches version was better. I asked how he knew this...his reply (I love this) My friends all told me not to bother listening to Dio's version.
Not wanting to do the whole, if your friends jumped off a bridge would you thing, I asked...what other metal bands do you like...his reply..Avenege Sevenfold :erk:
That's how kids are getting back these days...listening to 2nd rate metal bands doing covers of amazing songs...because their idea of a metal bands can't write their own song.

This is a good way of explaining me and my father's differences in opinion. I was always brought up to question everything, look at it differently and dig into the core subject and form my own opinion.

As a kid I always thought from his actions that he never believed in god. Then one day we were debating and the question came into the context, then dad said, "I do believe in god you know, even though I don't go to church and all that rubbish, I still believe".

With that I responded, "So how does this effect your viewpoint of me being a non believer in (there is only one or standard christian viewpoint) god".

"Well", he said. "I know that you have looked into and found your own beliefs, so you haven't just taken what you've been told. You have discovered your own belief and put your faith in your findings, I can live with that because I would rather you believe in your faith than taking my word and believing solely in my faith alone."

This did take 20 years for us to be able to stand in one location and have this type of conversation. If my son believed only in my faith, I'd slap him silly. and I'll leave my rant at this, "What is wrong with the sheep (humans) in this world!"

I'll gladly debate anything with you and agree that your opinion is better than mine, to you alone. Just don't expect me to change my viewpoint just because you cannot handle or comprehend mine!

LOL. I never thought of it like that! But I mean, perhaps it's gonna be the reverse of how we see it? I used to listen to mellow and pop music growing up, then turned to Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Rob Zombie... so perhaps, just as you say, IT WILL be Celine Dion that they have hidden under their mattresses.

Ughhh, full-body shudder.

But as for my cousin, I'm a lot happier hearing him blast Amon Amarth all the time, instead of Crazy Frog. (WHICH I THINK SOMEONE SHOULD DO A METAL COVER FOR, YES?) Lmao.

Hey, I like the Killswitch version. It's not a ripoff but a tribute, imo. Especially if you've seen the video, cracks me up.

I will have to say my last comment, about 2nd rate bands really was a little mean.
And yes it is a tribute, they love Dio and the song or they wouldn't have been inspired to make a tribute. Knowing this and not being willing to listen to Dio is really what erked me. He's forming an opinion about something he hasn't listened to yet, based on the opinion of his friends. I would respect his opinion more, if he had heard Dio, but still believed Killswitch's version is better.
BTW I am no saying my opinion is better, I was just floored..that someone had formed an opinion about something, without finding out for himself. He was soley taking his friends opinions to be fact.
Yes I will probably always be baised to Dio, Flyod and any of the early greats, because that is what I grew up listening too. So ya I mortified to hear someone say that a newer bands version is better and they won't bother listening the musician who made that song great.

To be honest if someone hasn't ever listened to the earlier greats they don't really deserve to listen to any current metal, be it great stuff or the generic American type shit. That's where the music we have today has evolved from and if you don't even make an effort to listen to anything from then (even if you don't like it) it kind of just shows how much of a stupid fuck you really are.

Also I gotta say that Killswitch really are total shit and think that their version of Dio's great is a pisstake to be frank.

Vilewoman, I have to agree with you. How that hel can someone say that a remake of a song is better than the original when they've never even heard it, and can't even be bothered to listen to it? Sorry, when I got into metal, I wore out the needles on the turntable playing Last in Line & Holy Diver. I'd say the dude's nothing more than a fucktard.

HA! I have something to report on this story...that store is RIGHT around the corner from my work. The manager came in two days ago (another employee was involved in a huge crash) I told him about the story and this guy is an old school rock-n-roll fan, and he hates this kid refuses to listen to Dio. So he asked me to help him make this kid see the light, haha. Next day on my way into work, I brought him Dio's Greatest Hits..his plan to play it loud and often just to force the kid to listen to it.
I wondering how that is working out, hehe.

Yessssssssss! :headbang::kickass:

Heheh, you know what would be funny? If the manager played the CD and didn't say who it was, and the kid actually enjoyed it. I can see it now:

Kid: "Dude! This rocks! What band is this?"
Manager: " It's Dio. You know, the singer who sings "Holy Diver", the song that Killswitch did a cover of? The cover you were SO convinced was better than the original, even though you've never even heard the original version?"
Kid: Ohh... (Followed by the silence that comes as a result of realizing that he's a complete dufus, and his friends are morons.)

I'll stop by there tonight after work and see how it's going, hehe
