I was wondering how much of this you are familiar with because I have recently figures out some of the God that they had back than. Such as Jotum, and a couple of other Gods. It seems that Einherjer sings about them in there songs and I think it's pretty cool, along with the new Therion, and In flames. Well what do you know? What is your thought about past reliogon, beleives and so forth…

When I was a kid there was a cartoon series called "Thor". Thor and his magic hammer would be sent down to earth to right injustices done by bad mortals. There were other Norse gods running around too. Does anyone remember seeing this cartoon or am I just nuts? :goggly:

I 've read most of the songs in the EDDA. I especially like Voluspa, and Havamal. They're very powerful. Unfortunately I don't like the groups that put stuff from those songs on music. But the mythology is really great.

There is a very cool movie on Northern Mythology by Monthy Python cast: Eric the Viking :) you MUST see it

No your not that crazy :goggly: cause I'm sure I remember that cartoon too. maybe I'm getting old, do you think?

I like reading mytholigy,especially nordisk :)
There are many cool webpages around you can check, some are in swedish btw.

What i particularly like in the religions of the past (at least in the nothern and greek one) is that the gods were somehow based on humans (they weren't perfect, like the god of the Christians) and represent human qualities and natural forces....
The older religions are closer to the nature of man...

this is my fav.: it is a part of Havamal: Odin teaches his people... this is what he says about women :)

excuse me for the bad translation:

"Sweet is how you'll talk, and offer presents
if you want to win a women's love
Praise the body of the most beautiful girl
he will succeed, he who can flatter

A man should never reprimand another
for falling in love
because so often, desire for beauty turns
a wise man to be lost, and a fool untouched

Only the spirit knows, that which can touch the heart
the one knows about the other
no disease is worse for a man
than never finding satisfaction

I experienced it, when i was in the meeds
and waited for her that I loved
body and soul, the girl meant to me
but I managed not to keep her

Many women, if you get to know them
are inconstant with a man
I experienced it when I tried to persuade
the clever girl into frivolity,
but with shame she rewarded me
and it was all i could ever get from her
"

i dont remember the cartoon but Thor is my favourite character, i used to love that hammer and all that Norse stuff when i was younger, i think theres a place in London or near where theres a museum about it all. i used to be nuts about all that stuff.

god is my favourite fictional character - Homer Jay Simpson

hmmm......i like how the norse myths set up the world-with this central tree being Yggdrasil and then all these crazy levels...and the dragon Nidhögg who gnaws at the roots of Yggdrasil, the ash tree...i like him :)
-'cause its one of those central aspects of most every world myth, the 'cosmic' tree...i just dont know of any other religion that had a dragon gnawing on it! hheheh.

well its not necassarily norse mythology, its just an old poem about a scandanvian prince-but im reading this awesome translation of beowulf right now! funfun

and by the way, opth_001-nice guitar from the pic thread!

I love Video Games!!!! RPG's ALWAYS have some sort of Norse Mythology in them, its really quite interesting! From Summons in FInal Fantasy, to city names in Breath of Fire and the like. I don't read any direct Norse mythology but I guess I get somesort of outlook through books, music, and Games. Valkyrie Profile is a great game for playstation based COMPLETELY on Norse Mythology, and it is so much fun! I would love to get some education on this form of mythology.

i used to be into the whole asatru thing, but i had too much trouble worshipping one god never mind so many others aswell :) but i still read the elder eddas from time to time, theyre very interesting...

The cartoon was an adaptation of the Thor comic books. Thor and the Norse pantheon (same with the Greek pantheon, while we're at it) has been part of the same universe as the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider Man, and the Hulk for almost 40 years now.

Yeah that would be cool it would give you a reason to write a lot on one of these threads :) , no you don't have to write anything if you don't want to. Well that my 2 cent don't spend it all in one place

Is this the blonde bastage that has very little in common with the real god of thunder?

Interesting to note is that there's supposed to be both a Thor (the american blonde guppy-hero) and a Tor (a more accurate red-haired adaptation of the norse myth) in that 'universe'.
