Yeah, I know what you're referring to. I think you can still find them at vintage toy stores, and even some candy stores. The "puppets" were just the face, where you stick three fingers and a thumb in the back of it and move them around to stretch his face. I thought the Not man looked familiar...

You've seen the Notman finger puppet before Super Mario was even born. (Well, except in Donkey Kong and the original Mario Bros.)

Scott e-mailed me when I asked him about the puppet. He said that Island records used the puppet for...something (I don't remember)...and it, as he said, "just stuck".
