I've been given the official word today, that we can officially announce our involvement with this years Graspop Metal Meeting on June 27-29, 2008 at De Boeretand in Dessel, Belgium.

This is an absolute honor to be invited to perform, as this is one of the largest music festivals in Europe (quite possibly the world.) Last years attendance was just over 120,000 people. The opportunity for us is simply amazing. We have known about this since our last trip to Europe in November, so It's been difficult not talk about it, as the festival organizers like to release confirmed acts in waves, instead of all at once.

As of now, the confirmed acts are as follows...

36 CRAZYFISTS
ALCHEMIST
APOCALYPTICA
AT THE GATES
AVENGED SEVENFOLD
BEHEMOTH
BLEEDING THROUGH
BRING ME THE HORIZON
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE
CAVALERA CONSPIRACY
COMEBACK KID
CONVERGE
DEATHSTARS
DEF LEPPARD
DYING FETUS
FORBIDDEN
HELMET

MORBID ANGEL
MY DYING BRIDE

I assume you already knew about it in De Rots, when i asked you if the european summer festivals were an option.

Do you come over to Belgium for Graspop, or are their other surprises which you are already allowed to share.

Yes, I did know when you asked, and had to bite my tongue. What was funny, it was the worst kept secret in De Rots! We told NO ONE, and people we're coming up to us whispering "See you at Graspop!" We couldn't take the chance and talk about it, and risk losing the spot on the fest. The wait was tough, but worth it!

Honestly, we are trying to book a show or 2 other then Graspop, but we shall see. It's difficult to book during the surrounding days to the fest, and the club owners know the draw will be weak. We'll post it as soon as or if anything else is confirmed.

We're looking into something for the local guys as well. :)

Awesome - it's getting to the point where we need to dress up someplace like Wicker Park to look like Belgium, just to get another show in town.

Durty Nellies, uh...sure, that's like close to Belgium, right?

Glad to see that you guys get a spot on a big European fest.

Haha, well the thing is, dressing up the local clubs to look like Belgium isn't necessary. However getting the local club owners/promoters to take a band like ours seriously and book us there would be a good start. (I.E. no we will not pay to play, no we will not play on thursday night for 25 bucks and drink tickets, no we're not going to "open" for the local System Of A Down cover band, etc.) Believe me, we really do want to get out and play! I just wish a few more viable options would come our way.

You would have to do a set of PELICAN covers to draw 400 in Wicker Park!!

Yeah, it's a damn shame that ND doesn't draw well in Chi-Town. I just don't get it.

There are a lot of big tours coming through town this year. Maybe there will be some opening slot opportunities....

Yeah we've been over the whole "opening slot" situation on this forum before lol

There's just never been strong, consistent support for the underground metal bands here, even though Chicago has spawned some very good bands. Ask the guys in Usurper, Macabre, etc., and chances are they'll tell you that support overseas is 10 times stronger for them than here at home. I have nothing against a band like Pelican at all, but you can see that their sound and style has just enough appeal to the "hipster" mentality of the Wicker Park crowd that it's "ok" for them to like 'em. Again I'm not dissing on Pelican, I think they're very good and they've been doing really well and that's awesome. But the truth is that most of these venues don't feel that underground death metal bands are going to draw a big enough crowd to really warrant booking them regularly. And sadly, they're probably correct.

As for Graspop, I'm really curious to see what the final lineup looks like! The lineup so far is pretty impressive. I can think of at least ten or so of those bands listed that I'd very much like to see. I'd love to see Whitesnake, they have a killer lineup these days!

:kickass:Congratz...There are some pretty damn cool bands on that list...some shitty ones as well:zombie:
But the cool ones totally makes up for it :kickass:

Thats awesome guys, should definitely be some great exposure for you! Looks like a pretty good lineup, lots of bands I would love to see. Wish I could afford to go to this... Here's to hoping you get a good slot. :kickass:

Very true but Wicker Park is not a place for Novembers Doom to be playing regularly anyway.
Come closer to me and play at Pearl Room more often:kickass:
I've seen better shows there lately then I have anywhere downtown.
Enslaved, Exodus... and the upcoming Paganfest is going to rock.
