Now Playing

^---I saw them live a night before Krondor and definitely enjoyed it. The set spanned their career with the exception of the debut and had a near-perfect balance of heavy and subtle stuff, so that was cool. The highlights for me were probably Eternal Rains Will Come (first song of the set and one of my favourite new songs this year), Advent and of course Mikael's hilarious stage antics. Alcest was the perfect opener, and the guys were nice enough to stay and hang out after their set so I got the chance to express my appreciation of Neige's music and general existence to him in first-hand. Cool guy, and even prettier in person.

Never really got into Opeth or heard their music before, but I keep hearing their name being mentioned on the Sym X forum all the time. Now, after hearing Sauna, I'm not thinking to, I'm sure I will check them out. Just not sure where to start, their discography is large.

Opeth was great! I completely agree with Sauna. Perfect set and I really enjoyed the stuff from Pale Communion (in my opinion the best Opeth album as a whole). They were playing at a place called Circus, which is a pretty small place and had HORRIBLE sounds last time I saw live music there, but this was a totally different case. I've only seen Opeth twice, but this sure was an awesome gig.

Ill try to make it easy for you.
The first two, Orchid and Morningrise. Do you you like Black Metal? These are not but you can definitely hear influence- vocals for instance. From these check out The Twilight is.My Robe, Forest of October, or Apostle in Triumph from Orchid and Nectar, To Bid You Farewell, and Advent from Morningrise(my favorite album by them).

The next one are mor death metally, if you want that: My Arms Your Hearse, Still Life(2nd favorite) Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Ghost Reveries. Id say check out When, The Amen Corner, and Credence from MAYH. Moonlapse Vertigo, The Moor, and Face of Melinda from Still Life. Leper Affinity, The Draper Falls, and Bleak from BWP. Deliverence? Deliverence, A Fair Judgement, Masters Apprentices. Ghost Reveries? Harelquin Forest,Beneath the Mire, Grand Conjuration.

The Others are more Proggy, Damnation? Windowpane, In My Time of Need, Hope Leaves. For Watershed, Burden, Lotus eater,Hex Omega. Then theres Heritage: Famine, I Feel the Dark, devils Orchard.

Sorry I cant comment on the newest, I need.more listens.

Tl;Dr Opeth in Five songs: 1. Black rose Immortal 2.Face Of Melinda 3. Windowpane 4. The Grand Conjuration 5. Devils Orchard.

These are songs I like, YMMV.

Sorry for typos...I used my phone.

I Don't really like extreme metal genres(black, death)....But I'll give the prog stuff you mentioned a listen. I looked them up and thought they are a 100% prog metal band, but I was wrong it seems.

My favourite Opeth song is The Night and the Silent Water, from their album Morningrise. I also like Pale Communion a lot. But generally, I don't consider myself an Opeth fan.

@Indestructible: If you don't like growls you might as well check out the newest album first. If growls are ok, I'd say Ghost Reveries is probably the place to start.

^--- A pale shadow of how good they would eventually get on Viva la Vida and Mylo Xyloto with a little help from Eno.

Viva la Vida- Coldplay

Only heard the self titled song before now... just started listening to them for the first time since X&Y. Need to give both of these a listen.
