Obama's Inauguration Speech

He's not running for president any more. It's time to leave that behind and tell us what he is gonna do.

yes he is. you dont stop running until youre term limited

in anycase, i dont give a fuck, so i didnt watch it. this hype has seriously bothered me. he's black, so what? its not some amazing accomplishment. anyone making a big deal about him being the first black president is racist. i dont care if youre for or against him. get over his ethnicity...

holy fuck i hate people...

It's more the fact that people have got OVER the prejudice for him to get to this point.

So basically America's proud of themselves for not going "Loldarky" anymore.

But stupid or not, you can't outright deny that this is a landmark moment, for better or worse.

It's too complex an issue. It's a landmark on it's own merits but not by virtue of "America" doing something or the other. For one example, what about the 48% or so that didn't vote for him? Are we going to say they did or didn't contribute, because how can we find out a clear-cut opinion out of that the way we roughly can with the people that did vote for him? I don't believe for a second people who voted against him are racist but again I'm just making an example, that half-and-half just isn't enough to say America this, America that. I hate the media.

Also, I don't believe that there is some kind of impossibility of a black politician getting to this point before this point. Colin Powell, Alan Keyes, Ron Brown, etc, have all gained acclaim and high points of influence before. People need to swallow the other part of the medicine which is the fact that there just plain aren't an abundance of blacks in that system, and THAT comes from a root source problem.

if they keep calling him the first black president, they havent. why say he's black? we arent blind

You're obviously missing the broader issue here and I'm too lazy to explain it to you right now, but there is a legitimate reason that his race is brought up regularly (though I agree that it reaches the point of overkill sometimes, but that is more a symptom of the 24/7 news media culture).

i get the whole "from slave to president" thing. but i would that we as a society can really let it go. a true sign of equality is when we are no longer surprised a "minority" does something good. until that day comes, youre all fucking racist assholes

IMO, the people most genuine and most qualified to have the strongest feelings behind the whole thing in terms of 'w00t black president!' are the now elderly blacks who grew up under Jim Crow laws and et al.

Wake up call: racism is not over. That we as a nation were able to elect a half black president does not mean that racism is not still a VERY serious issue throughout the country. So acknowledging this grand achievement in the aim toward equality of race is to say "yes, this is great, but we have a way to go." There is still a tremendous economic disparity between races that needs to be addressed, for instance. I would go on but I have to go watch the Daily Show now. Peace.
