Rascism, like competition over space and to reproduce is an ingrained charcteristic of the living animal.
People will always observe and judge. The only way to stop the plague of the 'isms' is to gorge peoples eyes out at birth. But even then the speech and smell and possible behaviour? Too bold? observed, would give them away. And discrimination would rear it's ugly but natural head.

Fatalism solves all problems.

The reason that a black becoming president is such a big deal is because, aside from everything else, it has never happened before. Now that it has happened, it has opened the doors to all minorities of all degrees, from race, gender, religion, etc. Now now seem attainable, and increasingly moreso in an increasingly sooner period of time. This marks the beginning of many different things.

No, I was more thinking of all the people on welfare and all those who want to be taken care of and not contribute to society. All those who cheat the system and try to get something for nothing. That's a large part of who voted for Obama. Or more correctly I guess I should say that all the people who have that mindset voted for Obama. Those were the ones who were home watching.

Indeed. I think it's hard for white people to appreciate, even leaving aside the political implications, just how huge this is for black people who for centuries have had decisions about their lives made for them by middle aged white Christians. I mean, I have black friends in Australia who were in tears when they heard the election result. They're not even of the same race or culture as African-Americans and Obama's presidency doesn't affect them directly, but just the symbolic impact of a black person in the most powerful office in the world was something they never thought they would see.
