I saw Epica live on last year´s Metal Female Voices Fest in Brussels, but the main reason why I won´t buy any of their albums is the male growling which I simply can´t stand!
Have you already tried Nemesea´s album "Mana"? It´s not something totally new, but I like the music much better than most of the stuff on the last two Nightwish albums! (To avoid any misunderstandings, Manda´s vocals are far from being operatic, they remind me a lot of Sharon den Adel with a spark of Anneke van Giersbergen.)
Hm, "Mana" could be your cup of tea then. I suggest to follow this link and download "Threefold Law". If you like this song, it´s very likely you´ll like the entire album. If not, better stay away from it.Wyvern said:Never heard of the band before, thanks for the hint. Nightwish had gone way down with once for my taste I do miss Tarja's operatic voice. The Gathering is another band I don't care for even if Anneke voice is quite good as anyone who had heard her in Ayreon can testify. Sharon is a feve of mine, but sadly WT had also lost it after "Mother Earth".

And if you miss the "good old" Nightwish with operatic vocals, give Operatika a try (if you haven´t already done so) by following this link and downloading "Storm Calling".
Not really, there are two ballads on "Mana" (which are my least favourite songs on this album, not because they are ballads, but because they just sound rather average to my ears), whereas the other songs usually contain some heavy and up-tempo parts as well as softer parts. In other words, there might be songs you´ll like better than "Threefold Law" and others you´ll like less.Wyvern said:Hmm, it starts pretty good, remind a lot of Majestic/Time Requiem. But the middle with the more gothic vibe takes me down. In average sounds good, which takes me to, is this the soft/slow song on the album?
I don´t know what the other songs on Operatika´s EP are like, because I haven´t bought it yet.Wyvern said:Now this is much more up my league, nice power metal with not a godly voice like Tarja used to have, but definitively very operatic, like Power Symphony mixed with Forgotten Tales.
You´re welcome!Wyvern said:Thanks for both links
Hopefully you´ll find some songs you like.Wyvern said:I'll check the bands more thorughly

BTW, you may not feel inclined to try it after this thread, but Imperia´s "Mysted By Desire" (which you can download from the same link as Nemesea´s "Threefold Law") has got very operatic vocals, too, as well as several other songs on "The Ancient Dance Of Qetesh", and the music is also heading in the direction of Nightwish´s "Oceanborn" (though less complex)
