This band gets better and better every time i listen to them and i've been listening to them since freshman year of high school.
I started off with Dark Side and worked my way from there.

Lately I've been digging Live In Pompeii:worship:
Never again can a band of this caliber be duplicated.

My top PF albums:
Wish You Were Here
Meddle
Animals
A Saucerful of Secrets
Dark Side of the Moon

Phenominal and influential band. Their influence is staggering when you think about it. 1)Meddle.2) DSOTM. 3)WYWH. 4)Atom Heart Mother 5)Animals.

They have their time and place, most of which came for me 30 years ago but still good to hear from time to time, which FM radio gives us prolly too much of anyhow. They had their nitch, I dont believe they excell over many other great bands that also had or are having their time and place.

i used to like them a lot but i find floyd overbearingly melodramatic and self-important and annoying for the most part these days. meddle's prob my favourite now.

also the barrett stuff is absolutely horrible

Live at Pompei rules. Floyd invented post-rock.

Say what you want about Barrett but Interstellar Overdrive is one of the awesomest instrumentals I've ever heard.

I like every one of their albums but my favorite is actually The Final Cut. ;)

Great thread!

Meddle is my favorite album. There's not a moment of filler, the music is phenomenal, and the shifting moods and sensations of the songs are some of the most poignant and definitive in all of rock n' roll. They are a fucking incredible band (the best, in my opinion).

For me, the albums (best to worst) go like this:
Meddle
The Wall (I know some find this album pretentious, but it's fucking incredible music)
Animals
Wish You Were Here
Dark Side of the Moon
The Division Bell
A Momentary Lapse of Reason
Obscured By Clouds
Ummagumma
More
Atom Heart Mother
Saucerful of Secrets
The Piper At the Gates of Dawn

I consider The Final Cut just a Waters solo album with Gilmour on guitar. That said, I think it's a fucking phenomenal album. The lyrics and melodies are heartbreaking.

I own the Live in Pompeii dvd, as we all a few other Floyd things (VH1 Classic Albums dvd, Pink Floyd: 60s era England dvd, Pulse dvd...). Also, the Roger Waters Live dvds are spectacular (The Wall: Live in Berlin, and the In the Flesh Tour).

Animals
WYWH/Piper At The Gates of Dawn
Meddle
DSOTM
A Saucerful of Secrets
Atom Heart Mother
Obscured by Clouds
The Wall/Ummagumma/The Division Bell/The Final Cut(more or less equal...Nevertheless, they do feature a few superb tracks)
A Momentary Lapse of Reason/More

So, yeah...I think piper is one of their finest release ever. Musically, definitely the most interesting.
As for The Wall...I don't care about the "pretentiousness" but musically, It does have quite a few weak tracks. I'll just leave it at that...Don't wanna start another endless debate

Meddle is probably the most lyrically, and musically diverse out of all PF albums. Each song is totally different from the other. And to end the album with Echoes.......it just.....pulls you in...for good!
