Official Pink Floyd Worshipping Thread

Although I haven't listened to them in a while, they're still one of my favourite bands of all time. These guys can literally do anything...concept albums, atmospheric music, catchy music, heavy music, write amazing lyrics, you name it.

"Pigs" is such a fantastic song, holy shit.

Bus stop rat bag
Ha ha, charade you are
You fucked up old hag
Ha ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass!!
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You're hot stuff with a hatpin
And good fun with a hand gun
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry-yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

Listened to it today. It's awesome.

I find myself drawn to either side of their spectrum at any given time. Some early songs like See Emily Play, Paint Box, and Arnold Layne are fantastic under the right conditions while the latter portion suits a completely different mood. I can listen to The Wall any time. The live portion of Ummagumma is horribly underrated as well.

Since I last posted in this thread I've managed to get all of their vinyl except Atom Heart Mother and the elusive and expensive Division Bell. There are some copies of Pulse floating around but they go for $200+ :(

Except that the old thread was locked due to you two ruining it with your multi-page retarded shit slinging.

I'll combine this thread with the most recent Floyd topic that isn't locked.
Aww that was uncalled for considering me and Razor have been civil as civil can be lately though we still disagree on pretty much everything... that was just mean man...

confession: I dont really like the wall, except ANother Brick in The Wall.

I also DO NOT like Comfortably Numb.At all
Eeekkk Blasphemy... I think you should give the album a few listens and maybe even watch the movie as well... it's a great album especially Comfortably Numb which is a Gilmour and not Waters penned song... He was suppose to use it for a solo album of his but Waters convinced him to use it for The Wall... I think you are comparing each PF album to each other instead of listening/looking at them as individual statements of art...

I've got to be in the mood for Floyd to listen to them anymore, been played tooooo much. I wasnt torn by the Wall, it was all old hat by that time but I will agree that Comfortably Numb is a most excellent song, epic guitar work... over played as it is.

The Wall is a pretty bloated album. The ratio of awesome songs to forgettable songs is not as high as it should be.

The thing about The Wall is that people complain about how much filler there is, but that's not the point of the album. You have to look at the album as a whole and judge it that way. You can't judge it based on individual songs and actually have an accurate opinion on it.

However, I think seeing the movie along with the music helps people to understand the nature of The Wall

I find this funny, because I think that nearly every track, even the short ones, are fantastic. It really is a solid, epic record, despite its pretentious nature.

This is actually really true. The filler tracks aren't "filler," but are very important to the record as a whole. That said, I still think they stand on their own as great compositions.

I think some of the 'filler' tracks could have been combined to make one long song on some points and the album's integrity still would have held up.

Ok I need a new PF album right now. Have WYWH, Animals, Meddle, and DSOTM. Looking for more in the vein of Meddle and DSOTM

'Obscured' is one of their worst IMO.. neither of the soundtrack ones are that great but I think 'More' is a lot better.

I would probably recommend 'The Division Bell'.

And 'The Wall' does not have nearly enough musical padding on it IMO..and yes, I do think the story and concept could have still been pulled off if it had...
