Official Pink Floyd Worshipping Thread

My top 5 Pink Floyd albums:
1.DSOTM
2.The Wall
3.Piper At the Gates of Dawn
4.A Saucerful of secrets
5.Atom Heart Mother

I can hear Pink Floyd's influence in Enslaved, Esoteric, Anathema, Porcupine Tree, Riverside and almost every post-rock or post-metal band working today. I'm sure there may be a few exceptions. I've heard it said, imagine music today without the contribution of The Beatles. A point well taken, however, the same question could be posed in terms of Pink Floyd? Think about it.

I think that Gilmour and Waters sides of Floyd are two different animals. They simply could not have pulled off The Wall without Waters. The Wall is a masterpiece, no doubt about that. However, I think Gilmour for the most part is really the soul of the band. His solos and his voice are so moving it is incredible. Get some David Gilmour dvds. My dad has a few, this one is the most amazing http://www.storeoborealis.com/shopp...+IN+CONCERT+-+GILMOUR,+DAVID+724349296091.htm
I highly recomend it, buy it, watch it loud with a good system.

I can understand that, but they both have to be creating in the band. Waters wrote most of the songs, but Gilmore's playing is very unique. Post Waters Floyd is good, but not what it should be. It wasn't until WYWH, that Waters starting doing a lot more lead vocals.

Everything post-Waters is garbage. I like Roger's solo albums more than the garbage they produced in the mid 80's and beyond. ;)

I never completely understood the hate for the post-Waters stuff, but eh. No more filler on there than on a lot of other Floyd IMO. And then the best moments... 'High Hopes'.. 'Signs of Life'..'Sorrow'... 'The Dogs of War'.....'Wearing The Inside Out'... Great stuff, I think..

I prefer pre-Dark Side era and post-Waters era above all else. Except 'Animals', which is certainly a career highlight.

Also, 'Ummagumma' - the studio stuff - is underrated.

Me neither... I like the post Waters albums... Momentary Lapse of Reason is a great album... Though of course I'm more of a fan of their classic albums I still think Momentary etc. should get respect... It is Gilmour afterall... about my only complaint of those albums is all the studio musicians he used... :guh:

Corporal Clegg had a wooden leg

He won it in the war!

Also, I love the post-Waters stuff. Sorrow and High Hopes are two of my favorite Floyd songs (I think Gilmour knows how to write an album-closer).

"The Dogs of War" is a wicked song!

I think the hate for post-Water stuff is because it doesn't have that "insane person" perspective as the stuff that Waters wrote EG: "Te Wall" album.

Pink Floyd are incredible.

Favorite albums include (no particular order): The Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish You Were Here, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, The Wall, Meddle. I haven't acctually thoroughly listened to any albums apart from those so I'm sure I'd be able to add them as well. I've been meaning to get a hold of them.

I've also got their live DVD called "PULSE". It's amazingly epic. The Comfortably Numb solo on that DVD is probably the greatest musical piece I've ever watched and listened to.

We had a lenghty topic on this about a year ago. Great unique band in the 70's DSotM and WYWH are the primary examples, many didnt catch on until The Wall came out.

^ yeah I got that Dvd, "live at Pompei". so cool.

anyways, my favorites are probably... WYWH, DSOTM, animals, Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, in that order.

Fuck, I love FLoyd. They are a pretty hard band to top.

EDIT: I have PULSE as well, I dont really like it. I can feel something...lacking...it doesnt feel wholly complete.

The Pompeii concert video can be counted as one of a bunch of little milestones for me that directly expanded how I think about music and what I listen to... the version of "A Saucerful of Secrets" had me floored.
