I listened to Pink Floyd more often when I was younger, and have found that as I've gotten older I have to be in a "mood" to really listen to and enjoy their stuff. I primarily prefer the post-Barrett stuff when Waters was still in the band. Wish You Were Here is my favorite album, but strange enough my favorite song has always been Learning to Fly off the post-Waters Momentary Lapse of Reason. Pretty commercial, but I still to this day remember hearing it for the first time as a kid and being completely blown away - it was the first song I heard by them and what got me into the band. I love Gilmour's style and also love his solo stuff moreso than that from any other members of the band.

As for The Wall with "filler", you have to consider that it is a concept album and the tracks are not intended to be heard as singles. It's one entire composition that tells a story. It's kind of like picking up a book or movie and going to a random part and hating it because there's no immediate interest. Still one can argue that an album with tracks allows the listener to pick and choose tracks but I still think to listen to it you need to hear the whole thing in one sitting.

That is true about people when they talk about The Wall with the filler but you are right that you must listen to it just like a reading a book or watching a movie since it a concept album. They are a great band.
