Official Your FavoUrite Albums of 2012 Thread

My favoUrite album this year is The Swan Road because that's the only Drudkh I never picked up until very recently, turns out it's amazing.

really?

because i bought it when it came out and i'm pretty damn sure it sucks.

I downloaded it when it first came out and said "well this sucks" and never bothered with it again.

Picked up the reissue just for completist sake, turns out I really like it. Not their best, but damn good I must say.

that riff in Blood
Yes. I tried to explain DAT RIFF to the wife as we pulled up to the health food store yesterday. "Look, right here, wait... wait... UUUUUNNNGGGGHHHH SO GOOOOD."

Her blank expression lead me to believe that perhaps my emotions were not sufficiently verbally communicated. Oh well, the veggie mission was a success nonetheless.

then they play that lead over it

fuckin :kickass: (headbanger beer guy should be at about 1/4 that speed tho)

it's easily #1 as in my most appreciated and listened to album of the year

cause the thread title didn't say "released in 2012", it just said "favourite albums of 2012" so

i would agree except i rather dislike some parts of rage for order – mainly "gonna get close to you" but some of the more ballad-type moments get a little too fruity sometimes

can't argue with "neue regel", "walk in the shadows" or "the whisper", though

warning is my overall favourite now, having surpassed operation: mindcrime by virtue of having 100% good songs and feeling more honest/enthusiastic/raw

I'm with you on "Gonna Get Close to You". Ironic, that a cover is the worst song on the album.

Admittedly, I love the fruity songs on that album. I had never heard anyone sing with such an emotive style, and it just completely resonated with me. "The Killing Words", "I Dream in Infrared" and "London" are some of my favorite songs of all-time. Even "Screaming in Digital" was like nothing I have ever heard before.

"london" and "infrared" are both amazing

it's kind of a pity that geoff "the vest" tate is such a douchebag these days because it makes me unwillingly question the verity of the emotion in the early work, even though i know how a guy is in 2012
is pretty irrelevant to how he was when doing a recording in 1986

i hate when the tedious irl idiosyncrasies of musicians interfere with my enjoyment of the music, i apparently never learn my "don't read interviews or look up shit on the internet" lesson

From everything I've heard and read, he became a douche.

Everything about that early work always struck me as very sincere. Case in point, Promised Land. I hated that disc when it first came out. As a matter of fact, I hated it so much I threw the cassette out of my car and over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Now, I view it very differently. It would have been quite easy for that band to write Empire 2. However, they went in a completely different, far less commercial direction. At the time, they were still more committed to writing great music, than increasing their 401Ks.

Agreed. Metallica has made it very hard for me to listen to them. The list goes on.

The new Neurosis is a monster, I highly suggest all RCers give it thorough time to hit you. Given to the Rising had one good jam, and a whole lot of "heh." Not a stinker to be found on this one, especially from My heart for deliverance onward.

i didn't listen to many 2012 releases. i just picked up a some a few weeks ago but have not listened to those albums enough to form a decent opinion. that Dodsengel album looks seems like something i'd like but the it's 2 and 1/2 hours wtf

these albums rule:
Ignivomous - Contragenesis
Mgła - With Hearts Toward None
Anhedonist - Netherwards
Agalloch - Faustian Echoes
Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction

these albums were underwhelming:
Aldebaran - Embracing the Lightless Depths
Evoken - Atra Mors
Indesinence - Vessels of Light and Decay
Dordeduh - Dar de duh i need to give this more listens but after the first few spins i find the non-metal bits more interesting than the metal [/becomingafag]
Lunar Aurora - Hoagascht (i used this album as background music while i read. it's okay but this band is capable of better)

these albums i liked initially but haven't listened to in months:
Karnarium - Otapamo Pralaja
Ketzer - Endzeit Metropolis
Faustcoven - Hellfire & Funeral Bells
Drawn and Quartered - Feeding Hell's Furnace
