OHR would like to sincerely thank our entire Anthrax family and crew, as well as all the cool people we met in Chicago. The response both nights was more than we could imagine. Even the 1 douche bag in the front row with the middle finger up our entire set Saturday night didn't phase us, because the other 1,000+ people doing this
alone was worth the 13 hour ride with all our gear and 10 guys in an 8 person van from The Bronx (not Brooklyn like someone stated in another thread).
I even saw some Heavycore brothers from the IL band, Low 12, in the front row during our set. HAIL!
Our stay in Chicago was great. We got there Friday afternoon and were immediately welcomed with open arms by everyone. Every bar, every club, every restaurant, even on the streets, people approached us wanting to hang out, take photos with us and even get our autographs. We were very humbled by all this. We're just 5 regular guys that were born and raised in New York city and have been avid fans of Metal and Hardcore since the 80's. Myself alone have been living, breathing and shitting Metal since 84 (and playing bass in bands since 89). When I was a young kid back in the 80's, I walked around with pride because Anthrax lived within walking distance from my house. Not to mention the band, Demolition Hammer.
Anthrax's set was amazing Saturday night. They were just as awesome that night as they were on the Headbangers Ball tour with Exodus and Helloween! The after party was awesome too. Great times that will live with all of us forever.
Sunday the fun times continued. Met more cool people, got to see the Sears tower, and to be honest, I was disappointed. I guess growing up in NYC one is spoiled, but even though it's taller than both The Empire State building and the Chrysler building, it doesn't hold a candle to either's architecture.
Later on, we met the guys in Lamb of God and hung out the rest of the day with singer, Randy. We guzzled beer after beer and talked Metal, trading stories of old shows and shit like that. Really cool guy. He even did us the honor of introducing us that night. The response we got Sunday night was even better than Saturdays (which is why I'm baffled by the negative words on here). Our opening song people were bangin', then by the 2nd song, to the end of our set, the pit didn't stop. Now, I've been going to underground shows for almost 20 years, I've seen more than my share of unsigned bands, not to mention national acts (I don't want to name drop for the sake of name dropping at the moment, but I challenge anyone to test "The Walking Encyclopedia") but to write us off so easily is a display of stupidity, in my opinion. I'd like to see any shit talker pull off what we did, and get such a warm response 2 nights in a row, like we did. Unknown, unsigned bands opening for such legendary bands in my past experiences ALWAYS got an embarrassing response, but we did the complete opposite, and in fact won the crowd over pretty fast. I've played so many live shows in my life (obviously none as big as these House of Blues shows) and that was the first time kids got a circle pit going for me, and that shit was fucking awesome. People were killing each other for our CDs, drum sticks and all that. More lifetime memories.
Even with technical difficulties, Anthrax kicked fucking ass Sunday night. The pit for Indians during the "Wardance" breakdown was vicious. People were crowd surfing like crazy during the whole set. Everyone in the sold out crowd was having a good time. It was so tempting to dive from the side of the stage...but fuck that...the gap between the stage and barrier was too far..lol....
Thank you to everyone in attendance that night, even the vastly out numbered shit talkers, we had the times of our lives and cant wait to see you all again SOON. You haven' seen the last of us...
