Have fun, dude. I agree with Taliesin partly. I DID go to Finland at the wrong time... I got the "it's so much more beautiful in the summer" quite a few times... and with the tsunami mood during New Year. oh well...
Probably Sweden was the best I saw on that trip... If you have time and $ try to go there. Stockholm is absolutely gorgeous, summer or winter. Are you flying or going by rail/boat? For foreigners, it's very convenient to travel with the Eurail pass and WAY cheaper than flying, especially in the summer.
Downtown Helsinki was cool. Try taking a stroll along Mannerheimintie, since there are some sights and important buildings there. On the little Market Square ferry terminal (By the port, across the Olympia Terminal) you can take the ferry to Suomenlinna fortress, which is a popular attraction.
BTW, I don't know what the situation is with the CAD $, but from my experience, I'd rather use a credit/debit card and get money from the ATM in regular amounts as I need it, instead of going to the foreign exchange windows. They suck you dry with commissions, and the Euro isn't cheap either.
I may try to go to Spain and France when I return to my beloved Germany this summer. If you see kickass attractions or metal joints, please do tell.
