:Smokin: How many of you on here are "old schoolers" versus the "newbies"? NO disrespect intended, just askin. I see a LOT of fans mentioning SOWN, V8 so I wonder how many listen to the "old" stuff versus those. Me personally, I prefer the "old" but that doesn't mean the post Belladonna stuff blows. Is it possible we can forego the "Bush RULZ - Belladonna BLOWZ" remarks in any replies? Thanks!

:Smokin:

Got into Anthrax via Euphoria in 88. Thought Anthrax at the time were the gods but now I must say I love the Bush stuff way more. Seldom listed to Belladonna era stuff - don't get me wrong - still love it but Bush stuff sounds better to me now. I suppose it's just cause it's more modern and Bush is a way better singer, lets face it.

same as above, state of eurphoria was probably one of my first metal experiences i grew up on the oldstuff i have been a fan for 14 years thereabouts and i aint gonna deny the joey era was killer,i was devasted when i heard they kicked him out.

that being said bush was a breathe of fresh air for the thrax and a fresher approach to songwriting has def gave them continued longetivity, gone were the songs bout comic books, indians and the gimmicks which started to overshadow the fact that they were a great metal band who took there craft seriously.

i aint gonna shit on belladonna u cant deny he helped them get where they are today, that voice fit anthrax at the time but i couldnt see him singing the stuff they are doing now!!!

Same goes for me as for everyone else, I got into them around '87 watching the Headbangers Ball seeing vid's for "Indians" and "I'm The Man" and then "Antisocial" and "Who Cares Wins" For me, they just turned it up a notch when they got Bush. Basically, they took the lead singer of another band I was familiar w/ from the HBB (armored saint) and formed a "supergroup" to me. To me Anthrax w/ Bush is no different than Audioslave. In fact, I prefer Anthrax.

Got into them with Spreading the Disease, and must say I love there old stuff, but also really like the new stuff except for Vol. 8. Some good stuff on Vol.8, but to much experimenting. The new album sounds killer, and hopefully will live up to my expectations.

i bought the madhouse compliation first then i went back and started buyin their shit, i got ATL, POT, STD, SOWN, V8 but im 16, so i guess i cant be too much of an oldschooler

I first heard A few Joey tracks,I thought they were cool, then 'bring the noise' ( which made me think: Wow!! A rap metal song that doesn't suck my ass!!To this day it is the only rap metal song I actually like!)
Then I heard 'Only' and 'Crush' on my then newly purchased '..Killer As' and was hooked. All this happened on the way to ozzfest 2002 (T'was good, by the way!)

These days, nothing can beat the new stuff.
Of course I got into them somewhere in 1988 (I was ten) and I still love the classic albums, but I have to admit that Joey's voice was always the weakest link, John rules.

Joey's vocals were great at the time as are john's now. Joey had to go for Anthrax to survive. They may not be as popular anymore but they havn't become a laughing stock.

I would have liked to have heard mr. Bush singing on P.O.T it's my least fav record and I think his vocal style would have suited it better......

i don't think anthrax care about be popular

i like going gigs were theres never any one there in linkin park t-shirts korn t-shirts ect ect and theres never any of them at anthrax gigs there was a few at wembley

wouldent they rather have fans that are gonna stick with them rather than a fan who's likeing them cause rock is big at the moment and will piss off onto some other style of music when that comes around

Got hooked when I was at a friends place bootlegging computer games and he had a tape runnin from the LP Among the Living, 1st time I heard music that fast!!! I was 15 at the time(29) and the 1st Trax I bought was I'm the Man because the sleeve was so fuckin cool!!

Lyrics-Hell of a lot better
Vocals-Hell of a lot better
Riffs-have gone downhill(what can I say, I'm a sucker for thrash riffs)
Album Covers-Hell of a lot better(Alex Ross=AWESOME)
Putting Albums out every 1-2 years-Old Thrax!
Solos-After hearing some of Rob Cagg's I'd have to say Push
Drumming-It's Charlie so Push

In my humble opinion, Anthrax have gotten darker and heavier thus better with JB, who, while not being the best "technical" singer (read: high pitched akin to Belladonna), adds aggression and a heavy voice of his own. Plus, I like songs, melodies and lyrics from JB's era more than those of Belladonna's... so I guess that's my answer: "new" Anthrax is better.

I've been into Anthrax since '87. My first purchase was I'm the Man EP after finding it in a bargain bin and saying What the Hell? I liked it enough to buy Among the Living, and not too long afterwards State of Euphoria came out, which I bought the day it came out. They were okay, never my favorites, maybe cracking the top ten. I liked their not-too-serious attitude, something that made them more fun than the other thrash bands. Never really cared that much for Joey's voice, thought it was the weak part of the band, especially on high notes where he'd occasionally crack or just sound off-key, it would almost make me cringe.

I like the direction the band has taken since John joined. I think John's voice suits metal music more, and I think the music itself has been superior. I think the production has really tightened up, and while there may not be as many "thrash riffs", to me the overall sound is heavier than before. They went from being in the top ten to unquestionably being my favorite band, with SOWN, Volume 8, and Stomp being easily the best albums of the 90's, and SOWN and Volume 8 being two of my favorite all-time albums.

So in answer to the original post, I'm certainly consider myself "old school" in terms of how long I've been into Anthrax, as well as my other tastes in metal (which still mainly revolve around acts that originated in the late 70's early 80's, or the rare newer band that emulates that sound), but I still consider Anthrax's newer (ie. John) stuff to be vastly superior. If you want to call me a "newbie" for that, so be it (although I might headbutt you for it the next time I get drunk :D )

Nah, I ain't into the whole "talking shit" deal. Everyone has an opinion. I just can't seem to get into the Bush era tunez. I've listened to SOWN and Stomp more than 2-3 times but it just isn't as "thrashy" as the old stuff. If WCFYA is as good as it's supposed to be, then I for one wil pee my pants with joy if there's a few "thrashers" on there.
