Any one else dig this band? I really dug Spirits and August Light, and the one after was pretty cool. I think they are one of the few remaining decent melo-death albums and they hold their own sound.

I have their first two. I like Years In Waste a little better. I need to get their latest album. Track 7 (forget the title) on YIW sounds musically, like Opeth. They are unique on most of their songs.

I think years in waste woulda been better if the production was more like that of the August Light. Heavier, fuller guitars and they Key board loud enough to hear easily. I definately think Years need the keyboard turned up.

I really liked Spirits and August Light, but i never really listened to the one after it that much, and i don't remember liking it especially. recently i stumbled across the new one, Stuck here on snakes way and figured i'd check it out since i really liked spirits and august light, but i wasn't too impressed by it except for a few tracks (mostly the production really seemed thin to me and that ruined a lot of it). so basically to me it seems like they only have one good album, unless i'm totally missing something on the others.

I like the music a little better on YIW, but you can't go wrong with the first 2. I read a review a few months ago that said the latest album was not so good. The reveiw said they were going the Katatonia route...which isn't the worst thing, but it'd be a shame if they abandoned what I feel are two pretty original albums in YIW, and SAAL.

The debut is pretty spectacular, as V5 indicated. Years in Waste is also quality I find, it receives more hate than it actually deserves (not as good as Spirits mind you, but it is still decent).

Stuck Here on Snake's Way sucks for the most part though.

:zombie: I did not expect you to like anything by OG :p...in fact I was expecting messages of hatred. Impressive.

If you like OG I might be keen to recommend Compos Mentis who are SLIGHTLY similar...maybe the most similar I have heard. More gothic/symphonic melo-death than emotional as OG are but I figured I'd post it anyway.

Haha yeah.. Spirits in the august light is one of the few melodeath albums i can still enjoy. I did not like stuck here on snakes way though.. the new vocalist sucks.

Yeah, imo they kind of started to fall behind after SAAL which is a fucking masterpiece. Check out their EPs before it though, those rule also.

Yeah I need to get my ehands on their demo material. Just listening to Years in Waste again--I still think this is a pretty good album, still kind of has that cool atmosphere of SaAL but is slightly spoiled by some convoluted writing.

Edit: I also really like Antti Flippu's vocals, they just fit the music so well. I bring this up because I have heard a lot of people really do not like his singing style at all.

I was really into Spirits and August Light when it came out. It's a good album and I still like it but it's not really the kind of stuff I'm into anymore.

I agree about YIW, the songwriting just totally lacks the convincing atmosphere and memorability of the writing on SAAL. Listened to the Steal The Light EP again earlier and I was pleasantly surprised once again. Ammo is a great aggressive song with a heavy metal opening riff, Son's Thoughts sounds equally amazing in its previous incarnation, and Candles For Giordano Bruno is just overall very good stuff. Pity about this band's current direction...SHOSW was meh to say the best...
