On the fence? (good info within- GH)

Having been to PP V and VI, I knew I was going to VII before even Pyramaze and Wastefall were announced.

As for $$$ issues, do what I did. Start a ProgPower fund.

See you in Atlanta

I'm more curious if you know of someone on the fence that doesn't visit this forum....

Btw, a few have asked me if I'm going to advertise the event this year since it did not sell out within a week. My answer is "no." With less than 10% of the tickets remaining and 5 months to sell them, I'm comfortable letting the slow trickle take effect over the next few months. I have no doubt that it will eventually sell-out & the streak stay intact.

Of the 6 non-posters I know that had initially planned to attend 1 is an absolute No. Another is a No because the first is a No.

Another hasn't bought tickets "Yet" and doesn't seem in any hurry to do so as of last night. That counts for 2 as he'd buy for his wife too.

The last 2 say they'll go if I go. Not very independent thinking, I know, but there it is.

If the music is the whole festival for you, then you're missing out on half of what the festival is all about. Where else can you hang out with 2000+ people who like similar music as you do, and are as passionate about it too. You say you'd go with local friends. We don't have any local friends who like this type of music (they're all wusses). However, we have a bunch of friends that we've met at PP so even if there is a band that we don't care for playing, after giving them a chance, we can still hang out with friends (and potential friends) have fun, and laugh. It's always more fun to headbang with friends than by yourself.

i think most people realize that the reason it hasnt sold out yet is because the lineup really only appeals to the bigger power/prog fans. if that's true, it's good news. kind of weeds out the 50 or so annoying pricks that for some reason show up randomly each year for the bigger bands. either way id imagine only another 2 or 3 days before being full

I plan on ordering tickets when my bro gets his next paycheck (the 20th), and I asked Glenn if they would sell out or not beforehand. He didn't anticipate they would. In light of the fact that we had 99 left on the 7th and 80 left today, I don't anticipate this thing selling out till May personally.

But for those of you who care...this means that I AM ordering tickets. Happy?

Just curious... those on the fence, have you been to a previous ProgPower?

THere's really not much for a power metal fan here, with the top power metal band being a #3 slot.

And there is not much for the Prog Metal fan either.. go figure..

I was on the fence as well.. I've attended every progpower since II... But this year really doesn't do much for me at all... But as other people have stated.. Just because it is prog power, it makes the trip worthy... I just love the fest itself!

And a friend of mine is coming from Brazil for the show! That kinda seals the deal.. I am not going to have a friend come from Brazil and not go to the show with him! LOL

I know it is a very small sample size.. But out of the 10 friends of mine who have attended prog power in the past, only 1 is going to the fest this year.. So It doesn't really surprise me that the show has not sold out yet...

That's what I've been saying. It's a really odd lineup. The top 4 slots are neither power nor prog nor a combination of the two. We've got an oddball in a 2 slot, a gothic metal band in the other 2 slot, and Glenn had two very dark sort of prog bands in the top two slots. Losing one, he replaced it with someone who will mostly be performing a classic rock style.

It's still a strong lineup in terms of draw, of course. But I think the reason it's not sold out yet is because the fans that would go for this sort of show aren't necessarily the ProgPower fanbase.

I work for a CD distributor and I noticed something funny. Most of our customers who buy Evergrey CDs don't buy European metal albums. They buy Creed CDs. Green Day CDs. Coheed and Cambria CDs. We're dealing with a slightly different fanbase than what ProgPower has had in the past.

I guess from a marketing standpoint you could say Glenn is extending the brand a little.

Yes & no. I do not plan on leaving Earthlink so I'm not really concerned about true expansion of numbers. I do want to maintain an influx of new blood as history shows that you will eventually lose customers based on loss of interest in the festival, financial matters, lifestyle, marriages, etc., etc.

I also wanted to maintain the ability to be creative in stead of sticking to the same basic forumula each year. At some point, I had to test the theory to see if the festival would sell on it's name just as much as on it's lineup. Last year may have appeared like a more odd roster, but it really wasn't. Therion was a proven draw with appeal across the board. This was the year due to really try somethign new due to various circumstances, some beyond my control.

What will next year bring? I have no clue. I do see a return to a more traditional roster simply because of the cycle of things, not because I have too. The run of sell-outs within a week has been nice over the past few years, but I'm not crying a river over not selling out within a few weeks. As was pointed out, I get the same amount of money for the show based on a sell-out in a few days over six months in advance as I do selling the last ticket six hours from the opening of the doors.

I do believe I am losing the battle in terms of public perception of the "success" of the show since I'm not sold-out yet. Folks, I have sold over 1,000 tickets (including gold badges) and have less than 100 tickets remaining and over five months to sell them. I love the post that referred to selling only to the true fans instead of the 50 jerks that were there for the headliner only. If that's the case, then I shouldn't have to worry about getting my ass kicked on the floor by some drunken idiot mosher.

With all of that said, I am working on something that will be a once in a lifetime surprise event at the show (sorry, it doesn't involve Russell Allen due to scheduling conflicts) Everyone that missed the show will be kicking their own ass for staying home.

Once in a lifetime surprise? Oh God, let the speculation begin!

Fabio Leone joining Vision Divine on stage?
Evergrey playing the entire In Search of Truth album?
Kelly Carpenter joining Jorn on stage for a Beyond Twilight medley?
Glenn singing in the Evergrey choir? (Oh wait, you said surprising...not disturbing)

A Jam session with the best guitarists at the show, and everybody singing to "Rock you like a hurricane!!"
