On the fence? (good info within- GH)

My question would be...for those still on the fence, how are you going to arrange hotel accomodations?

The last two years I arranged around June. As I said before, everything is booked when I check in March or April, but that's because Progpower folks book too many damn rooms. By June, the people not going(or who are sharing rooms) end their reservations.

Also, last year I changed my mind on hotels at the last minute and still found a vacancy at the Super 8.

I'm sure Granada gets booked quick, but Super 8 isn't a problem.

adaher: We live about 5 miles apart. Are you going to the Evergrey/Nevermore/In Flames concert next month?

Hell no. I don't like any of those bands. I'm a happy power metal guy, although I also like a lot of prog. Can't hack that dark metal.

However, I won't be missing Kamelot.

As for a surprise during Jorn's performance, there's only one thing I can think of that qualifies as once in a lifetime: Steve Perry joining him on Edge of the Blade. Perry's a guy we'll probably never see live again, so that would truly be once in a lifetime.

I'm goin Best Western @ the Peachtrees like I did last year. It's only 100 a night after taxes and is right by the mall and MARTA.

Although, is there anything cheaper and closer that anybody knows about?

With all of that said, I am working on something that will be a once in a lifetime surprise event at the show (sorry, it doesn't involve Russell Allen due to scheduling conflicts) Everyone that missed the show will be kicking their own ass for staying home.

I think that answers your question.

Maybe Yngwie is going to join him on stage for a few songs. Hell will truly have frozen over.:Smokedev:

That was going to be my first guess.

Hmm...interesting...maybe a Roy Khan appearance during Epica's set? That wouldn't really be suprising though, and certainly won't be once in a lifetime, as it's probably happened before and most likely will again during the Kamelot/Epica tour.

Not surprising, not once-in-a-lifetime and not gonna happen anyway. Kamelot is playing in St Petersburg that day.

Yes & no. I do not plan on leaving Earthlink so I'm not really concerned about true expansion of numbers. I do want to maintain an influx of new blood as history shows that you will eventually lose customers based on loss of interest in the festival, financial matters, lifestyle, marriages, etc., etc.

I also wanted to maintain the ability to be creative in stead of sticking to the same basic forumula each year. At some point, I had to test the theory to see if the festival would sell on it's name just as much as on it's lineup. Last year may have appeared like a more odd roster, but it really wasn't. Therion was a proven draw with appeal across the board. This was the year due to really try somethign new due to various circumstances, some beyond my control.

What will next year bring? I have no clue. I do see a return to a more traditional roster simply because of the cycle of things, not because I have too. The run of sell-outs within a week has been nice over the past few years, but I'm not crying a river over not selling out within a few weeks. As was pointed out, I get the same amount of money for the show based on a sell-out in a few days over six months in advance as I do selling the last ticket six hours from the opening of the doors.

I do believe I am losing the battle in terms of public perception of the "success" of the show since I'm not sold-out yet. Folks, I have sold over 1,000 tickets (including gold badges) and have less than 100 tickets remaining and over five months to sell them. I love the post that referred to selling only to the true fans instead of the 50 jerks that were there for the headliner only. If that's the case, then I shouldn't have to worry about getting my ass kicked on the floor by some drunken idiot mosher.

With all of that said, I am working on something that will be a once in a lifetime surprise event at the show (sorry, it doesn't involve Russell Allen due to scheduling conflicts) Everyone that missed the show will be kicking their own ass for staying home.

Glenn H.

I figured it out. All the volume knobs will finally be turned to 11.

Jorn's appearance is going to be talked about for quite a while after all is said and done.

Glenn H.

I totally agree with that statement. Jorn was probably the biggest addition to this years lineup that you could have got. Caught everybody off guard & pleasantly so I think. He should rip Earthlink apart. Can't wait to see the surprise...whatever it may be.

It would be a surprise if it was Epica that did that. :muahaha:

I wonder how many people know Jorn by name. I had no idea who he was until others talked about Ark and Masterplan. My point is, once Nevermore was pulled, people may be thinking, "Who is this Jorn?" If they knew it was the singer from Ark and Masterplan, maybe they'd be all over it.

Maybe... but still, I wouldn't immediately think of it being once-in-a-lifetime. Khan has been here before with Kamelot and Conception, and currently touring with Epica.

It actually kinda sucks that they are not playing more FL dates around PP weekend. It would've been great to catch a Kamelot show before or after PP.

The guy on the mike looks like James from Dream Theater to the point that it scares me (and for the record, fuck trying to spell his last name this early in the morning.)
