Hi guys

Im comming over there from New Zealand soon and I was just wondering if any of you can recommend me some good Metal pubs & bars and also some good CD shops over there...

Much appreciated

Rob

For metal CD shops you wanna check out Metal Mayhem. It's near the center of the city, close to Flinders St station, kind of under a bridge.

With metal pubs.. the only thing I'm aware of is the 'rock house' which is a thing organized by metal mayhem where they book out some hotel/pub and just blast metal all night.

Awesome Moonlapse, Thanks.... Me, my girlfreind & a few mates are comming over there for the week to watch Children of Bodom play. (not sure if you guys like them but they are well worth checking out)

You would probably want to hit up the gay bars.

God damn it, I wish I knew that when I went to Melbourne. I dropped by some 'independent' store looking for metal, they had a lot of faggoty punk, but not too much metal :(

Hey Benighted1, Not sure how long you are over here for but The Rock House metal night is usually on the 2nd weekend each month. http://www.therockhouse.com.au
Metal Mayhem http://www.metalmayhem.com.au import a lot of their catalogue so some CDs are a little expensive. It's just down the road from Flinders Street station. Their gig guide address book section has a pub listing.
Another cool shop is Missing Link Records http://www.missinglink.net.au also JB Hi Fi Melbourne http://www.jbhifi.com.au
Cheers, Jo

P.S. Do you get C4 TV?
"The Steelmill metal show, Saturdays at 1.00am covering Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Speed Metal, Industrial Metal, Grindcore, Hardcore, Deathcore and Epic Metal."

Yep, I'll be at the gig, along with a group of 10+ mates. Just look for the huge bunch of guys hogging the front, and I'll be one of em.

Not sure if it's a gig I'd take the girlfriend to though, haha. My bet is that it's gonna get pretty violent.

There is a shop near flinders station that sells cd's for 10 - 20 bucks. If you can be bothered hunting around there you might find some shit you like. The other good cd store I found was Basement Discs which is in an arcade place dowstairs. they don't sell much metal, but they have alot of folk blues and old stuff (I got a caravan and Gentle Giant album there).

Smoke Dreams ,not to far from Metal mayhem. Its ok but has a wide variety of alternative music, meaning their will be punkers there and other shit. But all in all they have some goods.

Metal Mayhem is definatly the place for the more olschool stuff, the guy who runs it during the day looks like slash haha.

Check out some of the local acts like In Malices Wake and Annihilism, good bands. They gig around melb. Sometimes there are gigs at town halls for like $10 there is like 9 acts, most of the time i havent found it too exciting apart from one or two bands but still good value for money.

Id rate Melbournes metal scene as sparse and not too many interesting acts, but apparently Melb is the music scene capital for Aus so the metal scene , i assume, would probably be the biggest in Aus. But thats a big guestimate.

Hope i was some help.

Isn't she good, she knows everything this woman.

To quote someone else's reply to her on another board, "cool

that advice was so good it deserves a blow job!"

Where did you find that list? Last time I looked on C4's website they didnt have steel mill on there.

I have never seen anathema, theater of tragedy, nile or cathedral (hopefully they would play hopkins), which disspoints me a little.

JB Hi Fi which i think is on Elizabeth st, has a pretty decent metal section...and unless other non-metal focused shops, at least one of the guys there really knows his shit...definitely worth checking out...and as for metal mayhem, wow! if i could have a million bucks to spend in one shop, thatd be it...on the children of bodom topic, theyre not playing at rod laver are they?

Haha. Speaking of which, how are those negotiations going?

Negotiations as in interviews? Slow, I'm a lazy fuck. Plus we need money before the next issue is even a possibility, and that's trickling in at a rather slow rate at this stage.
