Opeth + marijuana = ??

I've never done it
One thing I had dope+Iced Earth
it wasn't that bad
I remember I focused on the bass lines way too much that time

Pot+Yes is probably some of the best musical experiences I have had while high. Never listened to Opeth, I prefer something much weirder. Summoning is also really good, the earlier stuff.

My favourites bands to listen to while stoned are Opeth, Cephalic Carnage and Pink Floyd, mainly.

The best experience however, was the day I listened to Morningrise in a cemetary. (Not kidding)

Several years ago I spent some months in Edinburgh (Scotland) working and learning some English. One day I bought 'Morningrise' at a record store and that night, after work, I went to a friend's to have the cd recorded into tape since I didn't have a cd player at home.
My friend and I were smoking shit and drinking pints for at least three hours. After that, I took my Morningrise tape and played it in my walkman on the way home (15 minutes far from my friend's).
Near my friend's home there was a big park, kind of forest even. It has a lot of paths crossing it, so I decided not to go home but roam a little through it. After a while, as if I were guided by my instinct, I quit the path and began walking towards a little river that I saw. To my surprise I found a tombstone under a tree near the bank. I thought 'holy shit', but continued walking. As I walked more and more tombstones appeared. Finally I found myself surrounded by tombs. I was not scared, just impressed by the beautiful combination of music and sight.
All the people there had died at the beginning of XXth century. I sat under a big celtic cross and smoke a cigarette while listening to the incredible (and suiting) music. In my state, I wondered how the hell I managed to be there, in a cemetary listening to Opeth.
It was like 4:00 in the morning and the night began to turn into a "grey morning" (day breaks really early in summer there), so I finally went home.
When I arrived I smoked another joint while listening to the album again and wrote what had happened in my diary (in case I forgot the details the following day).
Around 6 I went to bed, at last, with the feeling that that night had been especial... one of the strangest experiences in my life, at least.

Sorry for the long post

Things I listened to while high...or drunk...or both

1. In Flames (The Jester Race, Colony, Clayman)
2. Children of Bodom (Hatebreeder, Hate Crew Deathroll)
3. Opeth (Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Still Life, Orchid)
4. System of a Down (The live mp3 of the show they did in Holland)
5. Incubus (i dont remember the names of their albums)
6. Between the Buried and Me (Don't know the name of the album)
7. The local classical radio station (prolly the best outta all of what i've listed)

Experiences had while listening to the above...

1. In TJR, I focused on the lyrics alot and actually pictured most of what was being said...like literal translations were occuring in my head...Colony I just rocked out to...and Clayman I focused on the lead guitar licks alot, and for some reason I would see colors....*shrugs*

2. Same thing as IF Clayman, focused in on the leads......nothing but colors....yum :)

3. Still Life and Orchid were heard in a car on the way to the Birch Hill Night Club in Jersey to see In Flames/DT/Sentenced/KillswitchAssCrapp...and those two albums along with the scenery and the fact that I was moving along at high speeds, at times I didn't feel as if I was in a car, but that I was actually flying at those high speeds....Blackwater and Deliverance were heard back to back while wandering through my neighborhood and I took a venture into the local wooded area...it set up a creeeeeepy atmosphere on songs like A Fair Judgement, the begining of Dirge for November, the end of Lepper Affinity, and all of the title track off of Blackwater...Bleak was my favorite though, walking through the woods while high......mmmmmm

4. The first song they played was a song called Drugs...and although it simple as hell, it stuck in my head and I "felt" the music...yea, I know that sounds cheesy but I did...They also added alot of clean parts to the end of songs like The Prison Song AND they did a cover of Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink Floyd and it wasn't half bad...

5. This was surprisingly good...Although I'm not really familiar with their stuff, their mellow sections of songs are really good...I focused in on the guitar work and just lost myself in it...me likes alot...

6. Although they're not big, and popular, I do like this band alot...Look into them...Between the Buried and Me...their clean sections are amazing, and the singer can go from Grinding Death Vox, to Clean Vox, to Black Metal Vox, to Power Metal Vox...its just amazing...

7. Classical music anytime is good...but when you're high, its taken to the next level so to speak...I remember one time me and my friend Matt went, smoked up, and turned on 96.3, the local classical station...I've never heard any of the songs that were playing, but after a while...I started to act like the conductor...then I again, felt the music...but in a different way...I started to feel when parts of the song would come up...like when the brass section would just come in with the percussion out of nowhere and just go crazy...it was prolly one of the best music/drug related experiences I've had so far...\m/

Pink Floyd and NIN were always my favorites, I never tried Opeth. Any music closely resembling death metal I listen to when drunk while air drumming furiously.

Back in my pot smoking days (daze) my favorite things to listen to were Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape, Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun, and anything Yes, Pink Floyd or Greatful Dead.

I've never listened to Opeth while high but think it would be interesting. Tool and Pink Floyd were always nice for me.

Awesome. They're a local band from Winston-Salem...a friend of mine from there told me about them a while back. I have some of their stuff, and it's very surprisingly good for a band from NC. They play live around here sometimes and have started touring the US a good bit. Nice to see them getting some recognition.

1)Yes-Close To The Edge
2)Opeth-Still life
3)Dave Caswell-Softly, Forestall, (if only there werte a full album of songs of this length/depth!)
4)Devin townsend-Terria
5)Enslaved-Mardraum

I fyou want something that'll totally expand your mind, try Yes-Tales from topographic Oceans, if you haven't already. What a weird and wonderful piece of strangeness that album is.

Yea, BTBAM played a show near here a few weeks ago, in Deer Park I believe...but I couldn't go...by the time I got wind of the show, it was too late to put in for a night off....:(.....o well, I guess I'll have to take a trip down to NC to see them this summer or something...

i think i remember this post from www.audiogalaxy.com 's message boards...am i wrong?

opeth while getting stoned?

i always prefer something soft and psychedelic in those moments and nothing too romantic (i dont want to think about love and all that bullshit then)...so the only opeth i have listened to then is "patterns in the ivy" :)

:p but my best moments with the jay have always been with pink floyd and king crimson...especially their in the court of the king crimson" album..."moonchild" and "i talk to the wind" have definitely been written for those special moments!
