Opeth exist in a genre of one...
The forward-thinking Swedish titans, who seamlessly and fluidly combine metal, classic rock, prog, folk and free form jazz, continue the time-honored Opeth tradition on ‘Watershed’, their ninth album.
‘Watershed’ picks up where 2005’s flawless ‘Ghost Reveries’ left off, beginning contemplatively before erupting into full-bore chaos. The band are also bolstered by the addition of some new membership. Drummer Martin Axenrot and new guitarist Fredrik Åkesson, formerly of Arch Enemy.
‘Watershed’ was recorded in the band’s native Sweden and was produced by Åkerfeldt and Jens Bogren who stamp the undeniable Opeth sound on every note.

damn.

another thing to save for.

might go to the Melbourne show because have a few friends there who would love to go see them.
but easier to get up to Sydney and stay.

*sigh*

wish that they would just play Canberra.

As most of you know, I've been a fan since before they were cool (just after Morningrise, one of my top five albums ever, came out) and really, really dig them, but for some reason seeing them live just doesn't appeal to me. I don't know why. Maybe I'll go this time around but I doubt it.

The Opeth gig at the Forum last tour was a massive surprise for me!
I like Opeth, but rarely listen to them at length. The live gig however was amazing! It far exceeded all my expectations and was one of the best shows I've ever been to.

Spiff - go see 'em. :)

I thought they were great the first time I saw them, at the Metro. The next time was at the Enmore and I wasn't as enthralled. I didn't see them on the last tour.

Exactly what I thought. First time they came out here I really enjoyed their show so I sent the second time. Bad idea. Pretty boring. Didn't bother third time and wont bother again.

Ah well they used to be good.

Tickets just arrived today.
Is there new album any good? Is it even out yet? I stopped listening to them after Damnation came out. So got no idea what their direction in style has taken. I saw them back in 2003 and quite enjoyed the show so i'm looking forward to seeing them again.

I went off them after My Arms, Your Hearse but really liked Damnation and Ghost Referees. I don't really know any of the stuff from Still Life, Blackwater Park (or whatever it's called) or Deliverance. Still don't know if I'll be going, but I might learn that material just in case.

the new album is more proggy and experimental in tone -embracing the talents of the new members and allowing Mickael more freedom.

heard a couple of tracks and liked them, so just now waiting for the full album to be released.

I'm hosting the RR launch party in Brisbane for Watershed this friday night after the launch of Limelight. Limelight is at The Globe...after party at The Step Inn. Opeth launch/listening party starts after midnight.

I should get some copies of Watershed this week to give away on the night.
