Opeth-> Symphony?

Electric Cellos (along with other symphonic instruments).

They mainly cover Metallica songs... but I know they've expanded to other bands as well.

They're amazing, if you enjoy stringed instruments and metal.

I mean, come on... is this not the most metal cellist you've ever seen?

an orchestra playing opeth would be interesting. opeth's music seems dense enough for a full orchestra. listen to the orcherstra version of malmsteen's "black star overture" from the concerto live to hear what i mean. rock songs can be orchestrated well. while yngwie came off as a sparse baroque or classical piece, opeth would probably sound romantic with a denser tonal pallette. of course there would be the question of which instrument plays which voicing, especially on the solos.

a good set would be:
the twilight is my robe
when
the drapery falls
advent
the face of melinda
forest of october

by the way, S&M sucked. metallica's music is so sonically dense that there is no room for an orchestra's dynamics to do anything. it sounded like typical metallica with some cheesy muzak playing in the background. even a piece that should have sounded well, like call of ktulu, came off crappy. even wagner would have disliked it.
