Opeth's medieval album with flutes and lutes and other various ute's

Just wondering what the possibility would be of Opeth making a concept or just a regular album tribute to olden times with flutes, lutes, violins maybe.... They could use Per and his mighty board of keys to do some of that. They could mix the sound all together with heaviness and mellow stuff. Imagine Damnation with a string quartet instead of a mellotron. Or with flutes and stuff.

I think it would be somewhat of a sweet area of exploration seeing as how they've pretty much done everything else already apart from going electronic like Ulver or something. :erk:

Also I think it would be cool if they started a concept that spanned more than one record, like they could release their next album as a part one of a concept, and then have a part two. It's something I've always thought would be fun, especially having an idea and seeing it evolve over the years and making decisions based on experiences in life that would influence the outcome of the concept. It is something I've actually been thinking of. I might make a part two to my album in 2015 but that's pretty far off, and actually the first concept ended with the destruction of the universe so I might have some trouble thinking of where the story could possibly go from there.

Well I rambled, ramble back. :D

Not a bad idea, but not a practical one either. If I want that kind of music, I can go elsewere and Opeth can keep doing what they do best.

It seems like a typical step to go for a progressive band. And it would just be silly. And the symphonic thing is definitively the stereotype prog-thing. I just like Opeth the way they are. A little death metal group with big ambitions (but not trying to be big with symphonies and double concepts and stuff) who just happens to be the best band in the world.

i'd rather someone ELSE would make such an album of strings and flutes and that, not opeth. i have always been fond of such (string) tributes (to metallica, iron maiden, tool, a perfect circle, korn, hell even slayer!) so i would definitely give it a listen.

i'd want opeth to spend their time on a new OPETH album.

I like Lutes, but that's about it. As for flutes, that is Jethro Tull's business! Violins are cool, and if they are put into the music right (COF uses them way too much) it would be very cool, except it would have to be real violins, because I'm good at telling if it's a keyboard! Maybe some contrabasses, triple contrabass viols, and anything that has to do with deepness would be peachy too.

I guess this album has already been done and is called "First Utterances". Comus is what Opeth would have sounded 30 years ago, I guess...

My Arms Your Hearse was taken from that. I have looked for it in vain.
