Opinion wanted on ANOTHER metal mix! :)

Sound pretty good......the gutars are a little bit unclear at times....as are the vocals......though this can have a lot to do with the fact I am streaming this....do you have any other methods of posting this....shoot an MP3 would be much better.....

Yeah, agreed.. myspace really is crap for judging a mix, could you post it on soundclick or just put up a MP3?

Sounds good so far, but it's really hard to judge now..

Songs called "The Path Into Darkness " cheerful, eh ? Ideas, criticisms, compliments welcome. :)

This is a decent mix. It kinda suffers from the opposite thing as the "Machine Gun Bullet" song from the other thread -- you have a lot of stuff competing for the midrange here.

The vocals are actually very clear from where I'm listening (and I'm taking into account the 128k mp3 "haze" that's apparent), but the rhythm guitars are muffled behind them.

The lead guitar @ 3:55 comes in nice and clear and I really like what the guitar player is playing. On a 2nd listen - the lead guitars in the intro are good, too. I like the way they sound what's being played.

Also, the snare seems to be in the fray fighting for that midrange area with the guitars and vocals. You can hear the very point of the snare (like 3 to 4K) and a little bit of the beef (around 150-200hz) but it's hard to make out.

The only real drawback to this mix as it stands is the lack of kick drum. Yeah - it's there but it's not coming out and pounding my face in like a metal kickdrum should do. You should check your EQ settings on the kick - pull a bunch of the mids out of it - like EVERYTHING from 250-300 hz and boost where the click is - it's usually in the 2.5K neighborhood.

You also might want to look at either compressing your drums more or copying the kick, snare & toms to extra tracks and mixing them to a sub-bus and compressing the shit out of that. Then you mix that up under the natural drum sound and it should really bring out your low end.

Overall, I like the tune. It just needs a little bit of tweaking.

I took another listen and played with the EQ a bit...

If I can clear it up this much on an mp3 of your mix, you can probably get it really clear if you find the instruments which need those tweaks...

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. Hourglass, i hear where you're coming from with regards to the bass drum, but unfortunately the drum samples on my synth are somewhat limited and so, getting a decent drum sound can be quite troublesome for me. I'll have a play with some comp and eq for the drums, maybe change the kick to something more punchy. I have to say though, ive always liked my guitars with alot of mid and will always hate scooped sounds :) Anyway, i'll take a look at it again at some point.
